Wyoming Behavioral Institute is an Inpatient Behavioral Health Hospital and residential treatment center in Casper, Wyoming. POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for examining and providing psychiatric care to WBI’s patients. Monitor and direct the care of psychiatric patients within the guidelines and parameters of the Inpatient Psychiatric hospital setting at Wyoming Behavioral Institute. Participate in treatment planning, course of treatment documentation, medical necessity, medication management and document other care plan milestones in a multi-disciplinary psychiatric treatment environment within acceptable standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and some lifting. Hours may be irregular, duties variable. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Licensed in the State of Wyoming (or other compact state) as a Nurse Practitioner with Psychiatric certification (PMHNP-BC or Board Eligible). Prefer one year of experience in psychiatric acute care, residential care, partial care or equivalent. Knowledge of developmental tasks of children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and apply knowledge in planning of care. Will be required to undergo hospital credentials process prior to practice. Must have unrestricted state and national prescriptive authority within acceptable time frame of starting position. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be 21 years of age or older.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform initial psychiatric assessment on patients admitted for inpatient care.

  • Work with psychiatrist or independently to develop care plans for patients in their care

  • Services provided will be to various populations including but not limited to inpatient acute child, adolescent, adult, and older adult patients, youth residential patients, outpatient and telemedicine youth and adult medication management, and adolescent tele-IOP treatment plan oversight.

  • Order, monitor and follow up on medications administered for psychiatric conditions

  • Order routine/acute laboratory, radiological and diagnostic testing pertinent to patients’ co-morbid or psychiatric conditions.

  • Initiate and/or expedite requests for consultations, special assessments, examinations or clinical studies as needed.

  • Write or dictate psychiatric assessment and interim progress notes in a timely manner and write medical discharge summaries within a prescribed time frame.

  • Attend treatment team discussions and meetings in order to develop and amend psychiatric care treatment plans, care progress notes and discharge plans

  • Assist care team in monitoring and documenting the legal hold status of patients subject to the State of Wyoming Title 25 involuntary commitment process.

  • Apply currently accepted health care & psychiatric treatment measures to patients and provide appropriate patient education and follow through.
