This is a full-time, FLSA Exempt position with Carson City Health and Human Services, located in Carson City, NV.Under general supervision, responsible for providing targeted or comprehensive health care in a community health center; and performs related work as required.

  • Provides care consistent with evidence-based health care and medicine.
  • Works independently and interdependently with other medical providers.
  • Interviews patients to obtain medical history.
  • Documents accurately in the patients medical record, both normal and abnormal findings.
  • Performs general physical assessments.
  • Performs pelvic and breast examinations.
  • Initiates and performs selected diagnostic and screening tests based on medical history and physical assessment.
  • Assesses patient needs for specialty and diagnostic referrals and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Interprets screening, laboratory, and diagnostic test results; provide education to patients as needed based on results; make and provide appropriate referrals.
  • Obtains patient sample for lab tests and performs in-house waived laboratory testing.
  • Counsels patients regarding their choice of contraceptives; prescribes and dispenses birth control pills and emergency contraceptives; inserts, examines and removes IUD and Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC) devices.
  • Diagnosis and treats sexually transmitted infections.
  • Provides health related counseling on the prevention of communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted infections.
  • Follows up with patients experiencing infections, as needed; encourages return for follow up testing or treatment, when recommended.
  • Dispenses medications, in accordance with the State of Nevadas Board of Pharmacy policies.
  • Performs minor outpatient procedures, in accordance with the scope of practice for this position.
  • Refers patients to proper community agency, when necessary.
  • Communicates with patients regarding complaints.
  • Collaborates with Family Planning Medical Director and/or County Heal h Officer to review documentation, update protocols, and case conference regarding specific patients, as deemed appropriate.
  • Prepares a variety of technical, statistical and narrative written reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written materials.
  • Acts as a preceptor for nursing students, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse students.
  • Assists with medical emergencies within the clinic, administers first aid as needed.
  • Participates in audits, as deemed appropriate.
  • Participates in the implementation and development of quality improvement projects.
  • Organizes own work based on the clinic schedule, sets priorities and meets critical deadlines.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the divisions service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Assists Clinical Services Division Manager with other administrative duties, as needed.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
Typical Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience: Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in nursing or a related health care field that is acceptable to the Nevada State Board of Nursing for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (NRS 632.237); AND one (1) year of nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Nevada Drivers License.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Nevada Board of Nursing Registered Nursing License.
  • Nevada Board of Nursing Advanced Practice Registered Nursing License.
  • Complete ICS 100, 200 and 700 within six (6) months of date of employment.

Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of:

Laws, statutes, codes, regulations, and standards pertaining to the area of assignment.

City, department, and division policies and procedures.

Functions, basic organization and procedural constraints related to the operation of a municipality.

Principles, procedures, methods and techniques of advanced nursing practice including assessment, diagnosis, plan of care, interventions, evaluations, and referrals.

Principles, procedures, methods and techniques of laboratory testing and interpretation.

Modern and complex principles, procedures, methods, and techniques of nursing/health care such as evidence-based practices, health equity and culturally appropriate/patient centered health care.

Principles and procedures of report preparation.

Principles, procedures, methods and techniques of medical record keeping and report preparation and maintaining confidentiality and compiling with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Principles of nursing leadership such as effective communication, interdisciplinary relationships, and teamwork.
