Salary Range : $136,600 - $204,800 Annual

The stated pay range is based on a national-average location. Actual salary is determined by factors including relevant work experience, skills and location. This position is bonus eligible.

CNO Financial Group’s Accounting Department is hiring a Director Accounting Policy to develop and maintain the accounting policies and procedures for the organization including insurance GAAP and Statutory. They will ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, provide guidance on complex accounting issues, and monitor changes in accounting regulations that may impact the organization.

This is your opportunity to collaborate with various stakeholders, including the finance team, senior management, and external auditors, to ensure accurate financial reporting and adherence to best practices.

As a Director Accounting Policy, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.

  • Monitor changes in accounting regulations and standards and assess their impact on the organization's financial reporting.

  • Provide guidance and support to finance and accounting teams on complex accounting issues, including reinsurance transactions and financial instruments for both GAAP and Statutory accounting.

  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards, ensuring timely adoption and compliance.

  • Collaborate with external auditors to address and resolve accounting issues and provide necessary documentation.

  • Conduct periodic reviews and assessments of existing accounting policies and procedures to identify areas for improvement and ensure consistency across the organization.

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate accounting, actuarial and finance teams on accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to accounting policies and procedures, and recommend appropriate changes or enhancements as needed.

  • Work closely with senior management and other stakeholders to provide strategic guidance on accounting matters, including the impact of proposed business transactions.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and disclosures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

The Director Accounting Policy position is well-suited for you if you:

  • Are experienced in accounting policy development or public accounting.

  • Have a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and insurance accounting including Statutory and reinsurance.

  • Are knowledgeable of complex accounting topics, reinsurance and financial instruments.

  • Hold familiarity with accounting research tools and resources to stay updated on changes in accounting regulations.

  • Have analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex accounting issues and provide practical solutions or alternatives.

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Are detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting

  • Certifications/Licenses: CPA

  • Ten years in public accounting experience, Insurance industry experience.

  • Proficiency in accounting research software and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.

  • Experience working with external auditors and managing audit processes.

  • Candidate location in Central or Eastern US time zone is preferred OR willingness to work Central or Eastern time zone business hours
