JOB SUMMARY

This job is responsible for one or more of the following: sale of new business, new business to existing accounts, and/or account retention for a plan or specified geographic area. The incumbent manages client assignments, hires and trains sales staff, and manages close ratios. Develops and implements strategies and policies relating to new and renewal commercial sales and service. The incumbent focuses on the acquisition, retention and profitability of the various market segments, broker / consultant relationships and exploring new distribution channels. Develops overall targets for sales and/or retention and tracks performance against targets.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement sales and/or retention strategies for the entire market.

  • Lead the strategic planning efforts for the market, including product, distribution channels, technology, enrollment, and sales administration.

  • Develop overall membership and revenue targets within market, communicate targets to staff, and measure and reward outcomes.

  • Ensure the financial success of the market, including profitability and viability.

  • Establish and monitor the financial management, including market budget.

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Sales, Client Management and Client Service Staff as applicable, including determining team and department structure required to meet goals, ensuring accountability for performance and results, and coaching and developing staff.

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders, such as brokers, consultants, key client contacts, regional and state public officials, product leaders within diversified businesses, executives, divisional leaders, other market leaders, etc.

  • Partner with and influence internal leadership teams to ensure alignment and deliver products, processes, services, and technologies in support of the overall Organization strategy as well as the market sales and retention strategy.

  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 8 years of health insurance industry experience

  • 8 years of sales leadership experience

  • State specific Producer License Life, Accident & Health are required or obtained within 45 days of hire

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration

  • Highmark or BCBS Experience

  • Strong relationships with key external stakeholders in market

  • Experience with the ‘Challenger’ Selling Model

  • Marketing experience

  • Proficiency in financial forecasting and industry trends

  • Knowledge of core health insurance and ancillary products

  • Critical thinking and complex problem solving

  • Persuasion and negotiation

  • Excellent communication skills
