Department of Biomedical Sciences, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University

The Department of Biomedical Sciences of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in biostatistics. This position will entail developing an independent research program, participating in medical student Active Learning Groups as a faculty facilitator, and teaching biostatistics to first- and second-year medical students in an integrated curriculum. Additional academic responsibilities will include advising and mentoring students in developing scholarly projects; assessing, reviewing, and evaluating student educational activities and progress; and serving on university and departmental committees.

The candidate will complement current areas of faculty research expertise and be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded, sustainable program for independent research. Candidates working in any area of biostatistics research will be considered; however, those interested in using advanced statistical methods to study cancer, neuroscience, and/or healthcare disparities are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with departmental and university colleagues working on both theoretical and application-based projects in many areas of biomedical science. Additionally, they will have access to students in the newly developed Ph.D. program in data science. A start-up package and competitive salary are offered.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in biostatistics or related discipline from an accredited institution

  • A record of scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications commensurate with career stage

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

  • One year of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching statistics in a medical school setting

  • Experience with clinical case-based, team-based, and self-directed active learning methodologies in medical school curricula

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of multidisciplinary faculty

  • Postdoctoral experience

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at CMSRU is committed to fostering excellence in teaching and multidisciplinary research. The department currently consists of 30 faculty members. Areas of faculty expertise include cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics/genomics, neuropharmacology, and animal behavior.
