Summary

Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain the operation of the building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Will work from oral and/or written instructions, works orders, drawings and or/ specifications.

  • Will plan supervise and participate with others as assigned.

  • Will install, repair and maintain a variety of electrical equipment including, but not limited to, pillow pumps, suction machines, portable compressors, kitchen appliances, motors, transformers, electric wheelchairs, heat lamps, communications equipment, clocks, call systems, laundry equipment and HVAC equipment

  • Will install, repair and maintain the hospital's electrical distribution systems, HVAC equipment,refrigeration equipment, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, and various other types of hospital equipment related directly or indirectly to patient care or building services.

  • Will work closely with Sr. Director of Facilities to schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance tasks.

  • Will be familiar with state, local and independent agency rules and regulations regarding electrical safety.

  • Install, repair, and maintain building electrical systems which control heat, light and ventilation

  • Order and maintain a supply of replacement parts, material and tools sufficient to perform duties.

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance checks and inspections as required by the hospital's preventive maintenance program.

  • Maintain the necessary records and reports to assist with the hospital's preventive maintenance program, and comply with state, local, and independent agency relations.

  • Advise Sr. Director of Facilities when the need for outside vendor’s assistance is appropriate.

  • Coordinate and monitor manpower, scheduling, and attendance.

  • Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance service.

  • As the Electrician, encourage others to follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance services.

  • Report all incidents /accidents, no matter how minor, to the Sr. Director of Facilities as soon as possible.

  • Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as requested.

  • Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to the Sr. Director of Facilities as soon as possible.

  • Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to the Department Director as soon as possible.

  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as approved.

  • Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of shifts, etc.

  • Keep work area free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that established safety rules and regulations are followed.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned or requested

  • Responsible for maintaining Spaulding Hospital standards.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a high school or vocational school education

  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language

  • Must be knowledgeable of safe electrical practices, procedures, and guidelines for local, state and others.

  • Must be able to work well with others.

  • Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment.

  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles, and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance procedures.

  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Must have working knowledge of application and use of electrical formulas, fundamentals of electricity, electrical equipment and Electrical Code requirements for wiring and installation Equivalent to a complete, accredited apprenticeship training.

  • Must have at least 3 years of training plus 3-5 years of work experience which includes repair work.

  • Must have the ability to perform the work within the spirit and mission of the hospital.

  • Must be able to solve problems and to conceptualize projects.

  • Must be able to lead others and to direct their activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.

  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.

  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

  • Continuous mental and visual attention required to perform tasks of this position.
