U.S. Army Corps of Engineers LAKE PROJECT ASSISTANT (OFFICE AUTOMATION) in Burnsville, West Virginia

Summary About the Position: Located within the Huntington District Corps of Engineers, Kanawha Area Office Burnsville Lake, where you will function as the primary project field office employee providing administrative and clerical support in the areas of budgeting, purchasing, property control, personnel actions, data processing, reporting, Corps of Engineers Financial Management System (CEFMS), and other project office operations. Responsibilities Provide project information to visitors. Assist with formulating an annual budget, to forecast distribution and usage of fund allocations, and to monitor budget execution. General office management activities i.e., answering phones, filing, preparing correspondence; visa purchasing, preparing travel orders and travel vouchers. Computer usage, i.e., MS Excel, MS Word, Power Point, etc. Conduct a variety of purchasing and property accounting activities. Function as the Training Coordinator. Input time and attendance for the project. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. To Qualify for GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes procedural and administrative work in an office environment; preparing correspondence; maintaining files or records; making travel arrangements; maintaining inventory records; and timekeeping. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. To Qualify for GS-6: One year of specialized experience which includes checking email and maintaining an office calendar for visitors, events, and meetings; compiling and maintaining information and statistical data; preparing various reports on operational and administrative matters such as visa purchasing, preparing travel orders and travel vouchers, timekeeping duties, and maintaining training records; preparing replies to inquiries, typing a variety of correspondence, forms, memos, etc. and ensuring correct grammar, format, spelling, punctuation, etc., are correct. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). To Qualify for GS-7: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with property accountability activities for inventory of expendable and nonexpendable property; projecting and estimating fiscal year allocations of contractual and non-contractual commits and obligations; coordinating travel arrangements with appropriate elements; respond to employee inquiries about benefits, pay, or leave; prepare requests for personnel actions in automated systems; and monitoring and maintaining ongoing overview of the office's financial situation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). For this job at the GS-6 and GS-7 grade levels, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Budget Administration Computer Skills Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Self-Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent. Education For this job at the GS-6 and GS-7 grade levels, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
