Leads multiple Department survey parties and oversees contracted survey parties in a district for the purpose of determining boundaries and topography of real property. Oversees the compilation, update and maintenance of real property maps; provides analysis and technical assistance, support, coordination and advice for the development, implementation and maintenance of land surveying-related information technology/systems (IT/IS) and applications to include global positioning and geographic information systems (GPS/GIS). Serves as project lead. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct responsibility for the work product.Essential Duties:Land Surveyor I and IITrains and instructs other survey personnel. Provides survey technical support to project managers in the Transportation Planning Development (TPD) Section including Global Positioning System (GPS) design and/or construction surveying.Provides guidance to surveying consultants and contracted survey parties, as needed, to achieve project goals, and oversees their operations. Provides technical assistance for land surveying-related information technology/systems and applications including Global Positioning and Geographic Information Systems (GPS and GIS).Oversees the compilation, update and maintenance of real property maps or mapping as defined by the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying.Serves as lead worker or project lead for survey related work including, but not limited to, planning and prioritization of survey work.Land Surveyor IIIIncludes all duties listed above in addition to the following:Develops guidelines, procedures, and policies for District surveying activities.Provides guidance for staff pursuing SIT and RPLS registration.Liaises with TxDOTandrsquo;s Committee on Geomatics Surveying (COGS) to stay current with state-wide surveying practices, and provides regular updates (as needed) to TPD personnel.Ensures review of survey work products meets accuracy and adherence to required specifications.
