RESPONSIBILITIES:

The selected candidate will be responsible to manage and supervise the operation of NYCT’s Track Geometry inspection and Ultrasonic Rail Flaw Testing of all mainline tracks including MTA Staten Island Railway per the latest edition of the MW-1 Track Standards Manual. Automated Track Inspection is performed using the Track Geometry Cars (TGC) with specialized inspection systems that measure all aspects of track geometry and track conditions. The Senior Director is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of the TGC’s including the analysis of the data collected during each inspection.

Responsibilities include managing an Engineering group consisting of technical specialists responsible for the evaluation of data collected by TGC’s and reporting of track condition and defects for repair, maintenance, and new construction of tracks per MW-1 Standards Manual. The incumbent will evaluate new track technologies and maintain track quality and safety through detailed inspections of track projects. The selected candidate will direct Track Maintenance supervisory personnel in identification and replacement of flawed rails found during the inspection process. Highly skilled analysis, evaluation, and communication of defects are required. The position provides direct support required to keep NYCT’s system operable and maintainable to ensure the safety, availability, and on time reliability of NYCT’s equipment. Also, the position is responsible to support MTAC&D’s Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) projects

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $109,876-$155,953 (Grade B)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a satisfactory equivalent, along with eight (8) years of full time experience, and four (4) of managerial/ supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: NYS Professional Engineer License

DESIRED SKILLS

This position is responsible for a specific area within the MOW Engineering Division and requires comprehensive training and experience that is not duplicated within an organization. The inspection technologies used for Automated Track Inspection is specific to rail inspection and Nondestructive Testing technologies. Skills required involved knowledge of track Safety, measuring for clearance issues, all aspects of Track Geometry, video inspection and ultrasonic technologies used for rail inspection. Strong project management skills with excellent written and verbal communication.

Field experience with Ultrasonic Testing, NDT Standards and Procedures, Techniques and Methods as a minimum to manage Track Geometry Car (TGC) Inspection

SELECTION METHOD

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
