Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivatedJunior Rail Vehicle Mechanical Engineerto join our Infrastructure Vehicle Mechanical Engineering group in ourBrooklyn, NYoffice.

In this role, the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core mechanical engineering concepts. Some experience working in the rail industry is a bonus. An FE registration is desirable but not required.

This position will report to the Resource Director, Vehicle Mechanical Engineering - Northeast

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist in the review design submittals, and the preparation of detailed review findings

  • Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients

  • Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern

  • Witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, environmental, and functional testing

  • Assist with the conduct forensic investigation of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff

  • Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment

  • Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits under the direction of senior staff

  • Provide engineering support as required

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • A minimum of 2-5 years of mechanical engineering experience

  • Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical and structural engineering

  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering: kinematics and dynamics, stress analysis, materials, design of mechanical components and systems.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, work well within a team, take direction from other senior staff members, the ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines

  • Valid driver license (travel to various domestic and international sites required)

  • Experience with Autodesk and AutoCAD software, SolidWorks, 3D modeling

The following skills/experience are a plus:

  • Basic programming skills

  • Experience of Finite Element (ANSYS or Equivalent) Software

  • Rapid prototyping / 3D printing
