RiseBoro Homecare Inc. Program Assistant, Food Pantry in BROOKLYN, New York

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Director of Wellness Rising , the Program Assistant supports RiseBoro Community Partnership’s Wellness Rising program initiative that helps provide individuals with food and information on how food impacts health and well-being. Additionally, the Program Assistant is responsible for helping to connect Food Pantry clients to community programs and resources in their vicinity.

General Responsibilities

  • Obtain and provide client referrals for a Community Health Worker as needed/requested

  • Assist the Food Pantry Manager with collecting and entering client data into the referral database

  • Assist in maintaining an accurate and organized inventory; ordering and receiving supplies and materials for all program areas

  • Other related duties as required by the Supervisor

    Food Pantry

  • Monitor and track all incoming and outgoing pantry items

  • Coordinate pickup and delivery of donated foods when needed

  • Conduct weekly inspections of food items for freshness and their expiration dates to ensure they are within the appropriate timeframe for use

  • Provide timely responses to pantry requests

  • Meet with Food Pantry clients and connect them to SNAP benefits, Meals on Wheels programs, and food pantries closer to their homes

  • Strong organization skills with attention to detail

  • Genuine interest in improving community health

  • Bilingual English/Mandarin/ Cantonese speaker required

  • Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule; work adjusted hours; weekend and evening schedule availability may be required

  • Ability to travel to and from designated community program-related sites as needed

  • Ability to problem-solve and think critically

  • Ability to work under pressure and with a wide variety of people

  • A self-starter with a positive attitude and an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Intermediate level computer proficiency using standard Microsoft Office Suite required, particularly MSWord, Outlook, and Excel

  • Commitment to RiseBoro’s mission, vision, and values

  • Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities

  • Commitment to supporting communities that have experienced systemic oppression and bias (i.e. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.)

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    High School Diploma or equivalent required
