Job Summary

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research associate position at the Department of Geography, University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder), who will primarily work on a USDA-funded project aiming to understand the impact of climate and environmental changes on plant health. The postdoc is expected to develop new machine learning-based species distribution methods to model the impact of climatic and environmental variables, and agricultural practices on the distribution of agricultural pests and diseases.

The position can start immediately. Working remotely is possible, although the ability to work on the CU Boulder campus is preferable. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent on satisfactory performance and fund availability.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Develop innovative spatial statistics/machine learning methods and the associated geospatial software tools to understand the distribution of agricultural pests and diseases.

  • Develop manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

  • Present and communicate the findings to the communities of researchers and stakeholders.

  • Assist and develop new grant proposals on related topics to funding agencies.

  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Publish extensively, develop advanced technical skills, strengthen their research portfolios, and gain expertise in authoring grant proposals.

The position will offer a unique postdoctoral training experience. The postdoc will be part of a transdisciplinary team from multiple institutes.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this full-time position is $55,000-60,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Qualified applicants should have a PhD in Geography / GIScience, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Science or related discipline.

What You Will Need

  • Expertise in geographic information science, remote sensing, statistical analysis/machine learning of spatiotemporal data.
