JOB DESCRIPTION: Finisher/Sorter

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports directly to Production Manager and/or Assistant Production Manager.

PURPOSE

Finishing all donuts according to standards for perfect donuts making sure the right finishes and fillings are used for individual donuts. Making sure correct product and amount of product are sorted and placed in their correct staging areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of simple finishing and toppings processes.

  • Ability to follow specific oral and written instructions in the preparation of finishing / topping products.

  • Skilled in operating powered equipment such as (power donut fillers), and electric icing machines.

  • Ability to perform simple mathematics.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and sanitary requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives assignments from a higher baker either orally or through worksheets, with detailed instructions on the methods and equipment to be used. Weighs and measures ingredients, greases pans, push carts of dough to proofing boxes, finishes products and sorts products. Supervisors answer questions and check completed work. Learns new finishing processes and techniques. When learning more difficult finishing processes, receives specific instructions and work is observed while in progress and when finished. May be assigned more varied and difficult duties as processes and procedures of the baking trade are learned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a bakery production facility environment and requires continuous standing, walking, stooping and bending. Work requires lifting and moving items weighing 50 pounds or more. Concrete and tile floors are tiring to walk/stand on and may be slippery. Ovens and other hot tools and equipment present a risk of burns. Moving parts of machinery and equipment present the risk of injury. Work involves exposure to extremes in temperature when moving between refrigerated areas and warm kitchens.
