Lilly Associate Scientist - Obesity Research in Boston, Massachusetts

The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company, focuses on the discovery of biologic, small molecule, and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and associated complications.

We are seeking a skilled, motivated, and versatile individual who can help to build a highly collaborative, successful drug discovery and development team in the Obesity research group in Boston. The successful candidate will leverage a strong cell culture background and wet laboratory experience to support discovery efforts and pipeline projects focused on anti-obesity therapeutics. Responsibilities include setting up laboratory capabilities and collaborating with scientists to achieve project and department objectives.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Plan and independently carry out in vitro experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets/pathways that regulate energy metabolism.

  • Build out robust cellular models and implement signaling studies, cell-based assays, and mitochondrial respiration analysis.

  • Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on in vitro and ex vivo samples in collaboration with colleagues in other departments (qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, etc…).

  • Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment, and work within cross-functional project teams.

  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

Minimum qualifications:

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in biology or a closely related field with 2+ years of laboratory experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Ability to perform routine rodent handling and dosing, including but not limited to parenteral routes of administration and tissue collection is a plus.

  • A background in the biology and physiology of energy balance regulation and metabolic disease, particularly skeletal muscle and adipocyte biology, is a plus.

  • Experience with real-time metabolic respiration measurement (Seahorse, Oroboros, etc…) is a large plus.

  • Experience working with human IPSCs is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and projects.

  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment.
