The Associate Vice President (AVP) is responsible for providing support to Lehigh University's comprehensive engagement and development efforts through direct donor/prospect cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. The AVP will partner with the Vice President and the Principal Gifts team in the strategy development of the university's top prospects and provide oversight to six functional programs. Incumbent will work directly with the Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations on framing and executing strategic initiatives that impact the entire department and therefore the University. Incumbent will serve as a member of the DAR Executive Team.

 

In addition to the Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations, the incumbent will work closely with the President, Provost and members of the Board of Trustees on all matters related to Development & Alumni Relations. When the Vice President is traveling, the incumbent will be called on to interact with the President, Senior Officers and Deans in her absence.

 

The incumbent will work closely with other Vice Presidents, deans, and other University leaders to frame ongoing fundraising and alumni relations initiatives to ensure optimal performance across the University.

This position is a Grade: 15-40 with an approximate salary range of $223,480-$271,900 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications

  1. The Associate Vice President oversees six major functional divisions within the Development & Alumni Relations department; Regional Giving, College Advancement, Corporate/Foundation Relations, Marketing and Communications, Stewardship and Donor Relations, and the GO Beyond Campaign.

     

With respect to the programs within this portfolio, this position motivates and manages senior managers to ensure their teams meet their portion of our collective annual goal of $100M. Similarly, with respect to Marketing & Communications, Donor Relations and Stewardship, and the Campaign, the incumbent will also motivate and manage senior managers responsible for those areas to ensure we have first rate systems in place The AVP is not only responsible for the goals of the respective divisions that report directly to the AVP, but owns the overall goals of the entire division in partnership with other members of the Executive Team Serves as an advocate for the program (budget) needs in these areas with the Executive Director of Administration Partners with the Assoc. VP for Communications, Donor Relations & Campaign Director and the Asst. VP for Marketing, Communications & Strategic Messaging to identify and bring to life new fundraising priorities

 

  1. Develop long-term relationships with key and prospect donors to secure financial support for the university's top pr orities.

     

Manage a personal portfolio of prospects, including members of the Board of Trustees Identify, engage, solicit and steward prospects who have the capacity to provide philanthropic support of six and eight figure gifts Cultivate individuals by serving as a spokesperson for the University and in support of the University campaign and related priorities Arrange personal visits and engage donors through volunteer activities, regional events, and campus visits to meet key faculty, senior administrators, top volunteers and students

 

  1. Direct Management and Supervision

     

Work with Assoc. VP for Communications & Donor Relations/Campaign Director and the Vice President to establish multi-year and annual performance-oriented goals for the division, units and individuals and manage for optimal performance to milestones and metrics Analyze organizational needs and define structure, staff and job content Establish and communicate job accountabilities and performance expectations integrate key activities across the various functions

 

  1. Project/Process Management

     

Assess, identify and recommend improvement needs in processes, procedures, and practices that impact the entire stem Wherever possible, streamline operations and bureaucracy that is inherent in any large operation Coordinate projects, Develop and execute project plans, Manage project team activities, Monitor progress and adjust to timetable as necessary. This requires experience in complex, multi-dimensional organizations and demonstrated leadership of dynamic work processes and practices. A key skill is the ability to incorporate various management methodologies as appropriate to the issue and that leverage synergies and produce impactful outcomes

 

  1. Leadership

     

Align people and establish directions Motivate and inspire Deploy various well accepted leadership methodologies to effectively engage various internal and external audiences, managers and staff Since the position works with senior managers each of whom possess years of experience, it is crucial that the incumbent knows how to manage a high level providing strategic and tactical advice when needed. The incumbent must serve as a leader to a high performing management team putting them and their respective units in the best position to succeed

 

  1. Communication

     

Interact on a regular basis with internal and external University leadership - this will require the ability to assess situations and determine the appropriate solutions and messaging to effectively influence multiple audiences Credibly deliver presentations/speeches to diverse audiences effectively conveying the capabilities and competence of the department, aligned with DAR strategies, goals and objectives
