VCA Animal Hospitals Facilities and Safety Manager in United States

The facilities and safety manager’s primary responsibilities are the upkeep and overall maintenance and safety, both inside and outside of the hospital. Repairs to the grounds and building to ensure daily operations run smoothly and keep the hospital's appearance immaculate.  Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and laws. This includes but is not limited to OSHA, DEA and the Department of Labor. 

*Schedule: * The schedule will be established by the hospital leadership team and is subject to change.  The facilities manager may be asked to work weekends and holidays.

General Duties: The following is a partial list of essential job responsibilities. This list may be revised at any time and additional duties not listed here may be assigned as needed.

  • Act as hospital safety coordinator

  • Perform new hire job safety training

  • Conduct routine hospital safety inspection & meetings and submit through VCA portal

  • Maintain a VCA Hospital Safety Maintenance binder

  • Review and maintain the hospital’s hazard communication system (HazCom)

  • Establish and maintain a hospital emergency action plan (LAP)

  • Establish and maintain a hospital waste management plan

  • Establish and maintain a hospital radiation protection program

  • Establish and maintain a hospital infection control plan

  • Ensure new hires receive an employee safety handbook

  • Establish and maintain a hospital safety program in conjunction with VCA’s safety and compliance department

  • Be the point of contact for safety training, injuries, and safety inspections, including monthly safety reports, and maintaining x-ray badges in conjunction with the diagnostic imaging department

  • Maintain proper labeling on in-house chemicals, including converting MSDS to SDS

  • Plan and schedule routine maintenance of appliances, walls, elevators, fire extinguishers, furniture, lighting, HVAC, and floors

  • Work with housekeeping to provide updated checklists compliant with OSHA safety standards

  • Oversee general hospital maintenance (e.g. change light bulbs and filters, monitor need for new signage or painting, perform simple repairs and maintenance, etc.)

  • Make daily inspections of the building and grounds to determine condition, identify problems and initiate necessary action, and/or repair.

  • Schedule, inspect, and hold accountable outside vendors such as electricians, plumbers, landscapers, roofers, and pavers, including requests for service work and routine grounds requests and ensure repairs and maintenance are done in a timely, cost-effective manner.

  • Make supply runs as needed 

  • Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of hospital equipment 

  • Clean and organize hospital areas to ensure safety compliance and ensure staff follow procedures associated with hospital cleanliness and infectious disease control

  • Establish and maintain a clean, modern, organized, and efficient laboratory.  This includes stocking of laboratory equipment, performing simple repairs and maintenance tasks, and ensuring the laboratory is in excellent working order

  • Ensure Rabies submissions follow protocol and are reported in a timely manner

  • Maintain and order oxygen tanks

  • Main point of contact for troubleshooting Evolve/IT repairs, phones and internet

  • Responsible for monitoring security system performance

  • Assist with animal handling as needed

  • Ensure all work is of the highest possible quality

  • Ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner

  • Perform any duty that may be necessary in the best interest of the hospital

Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Self-starter

Salary Range: $20 to $25
