Johns Hopkins University Research Center Programs Manager in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Center Programs Manager to Join the Center for Substance Use and Infectious Disease Care Integration (https://hopkinsinfectiousdiseases.jhmi.edu/center-for-substance-use-id-care-integration/) at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where we are dedicated to pioneering innovative strategies to enhance infectious disease health outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders. An experienced research professional is needed to lead the development and implementation of research, technical, programmatic, and administrative aspects of large-scale research programs.

This position will provide program development and leadership and be responsible for the overall coordination and management of multiple projects. This position will be responsible for administrative, operational, and functional components of multiple projects working with the center faculty. Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead a diverse research portfolio of 5 grants totaling $10 million in funding, overseeing interventional and observational studies in clinical and community settings.

  • Manage clinical trials portfolio and research activities, ensuring compliance with scientific principles, and operational efficiency.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for clinical research, fostering a culture of excellence and compliance.

  • Manage all regulatory communications and collaborate with investigators, sponsors, and IRBs to ensure compliance with regulations and protocols.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, fostering partnerships for program advancement and impact.

Recruitment & Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and supervise research staff, ensuring effective workload distribution and fostering a collaborative team environment.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities for team members.

  • Design and implement effective team structures to meet program goals, ensuring high-quality work output.

Technical Work & Program Development

  • Lead strategic planning and implementation independently, driving high-level strategy design and innovation.

  • Oversee technical work, including capacity building, training, and program support activities.

  • Demonstrate expertise in relevant technical areas, ensuring excellence in program deliverables and outcomes.

Professional Growth & Representation

  • Lead center-wide initiatives and strategic partnership development efforts, representing the organization at external events and meetings.

  • Engage with other university programs, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.

  • Identify opportunities for professional development and skill enhancement within the center.

Resource Management & Compliance

  • Direct meetings to discuss clinical trials portfolio, staffing needs, and resource allocation.

  • Oversee regulatory compliance and protocol development, ensuring adherence to guidelines and subject safety.

  • Manage clinical research budget generation and financial management in collaboration with financial administration.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving experience, good communication skills, and ability to motivate others.

  • Ability to work effectively as a manager in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or PhD in a related discipline.

  • Eight years related experience including significant experience in the field conducting large research projects.

  • Experience in project management, regulatory affairs, and financial management of clinical trials.

  • Previous experience working with medically underserved populations and ability to connect with and value experiences of substance-using populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical research in academic, government, or pharmaceutical settings.

  • Minimum of five years of substantive experience with IRB processes and protocols.

  • Some supervisory, training, and performance management experience for exempt and non-exempt staff.

  • Interest and commitment to providing compassionate care and support to individuals struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues.

Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/ME

Starting Salary Range: $64,000 - $118,000 Annually ($118,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
