Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has an immediate job opening for an inpatient physician assistant to join our team. The department covers a wide variety of patient care activities including hand surgery, breast reconstruction, trauma, lymphedema, extremity reconstruction, complex surgical wound care, etc. This position will work with the inpatient census for the department. This position has no surgical opportunities.
The Physician Assistant works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The Physician Assistant is responsible for providing comprehensive and age appropriate care.
The Physician Assistant will be responsible for the following job duties:
• Manage perioperative patients while admitted to a busy reconstructive surgery department.
• Coordinate patient care, patient education and teaching, communicating with patients pre-operatively and post-operatively, and communicating with other providers to obtain all pertinent clinical information to facilitate patient care.
• Place consults, as needed.
• Interface with residents, fellows, attending physicians, physician assistants, and nurses to coordinate outpatient care as part of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team.
• Educate patients and/or intervenes in acute or chronic illness.
• Provide educational sessions to nursing and medical assistant staff in the outpatient setting.
The PA practices within the guidelines of the unit department and institution and in accordance with the PA-Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the state of Maryland. The Physician Assistant is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Board; these privileges list specific tasks and are reviewed annually.

7:00am-5:30pm
Successful completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program
- Registered/certified by the Maryland Board of Quality Assurance. Board certified (or
certification-eligible for new graduates) by the National Commission on Certification of
Physician Assistants. Current CPR certification required.
- If you order or refer items or services for Medicare beneficiaries and you do not have an
enrollment record in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System(PECOS), you
will need to submit an enrollment application to Medicare to be eligible for employment.
