Job Summary:

This part-time, as-needed position supports the in-person administration of examinations to undergraduate medical students at the University of Colorado School of Medicine on Anschutz campus. Proctors prepare for and oversee administrations of multiple-choice examinations, which involves interacting with students, enforcing policies, problem-solving issues as they arise, and reporting testing anomalies to the Assessment Team within the Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes (AEO).

Most exams are on Fridays and range from 2- to 4-hour time commitments including set-up and post-administration duties. Examinations are also held on Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday mornings, and occasionally Saturday mornings. Some exams may require up to 7-hour time commitments. Administrations can range in size from 1 to 100 students in a room or lecture hall.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for administrations including gathering proctoring supplies, printing paper copies of examinations, and room and technology set-up.

  • Ensure students place all personal belongings in designated area and do not access the area until they have finished their examination.

  • Read instructions and provide examination password to students.

  • Enforce the late-arriving student policy and report late arrivals via online form.

  • Assist students with basic computer issues and direct them to IT staff as needed.

  • Observe students while they test and report any anomalies to the Office of AEO.

  • Confirm upload of student examinations.

  • Perform post-administration responsibilities including room clean-up, returning proctoring supplies, and shredding unused paper copies.

  • Transcribe student answers from paper copies to an Excel file if needed.

  • Submit all test administration reports and rosters for NBME exams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with proctoring examinations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Adobe Acrobat Pro

  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work Friday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, and/or Wednesday mornings.

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Ability to assert oneself.

  • Punctual and dependable.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness

The hourly rate (or hiring rate) has been established at $17.36/ hour. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
