West Virginia Employer Vegetable Worker in Augusta, West Virginia

Temporary work from 06/05/2024-11/30/2024. 3 positions are available. Normal work hours are Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Hours may vary due to weather or crop conditions. This job requires a minimum of 1 month prior verifiable experience working as a Vegetable worker planting, cultivating and harvesting vegetables and hemp. Pull weeds/chop: Workers will walk along rows as specified by employer and remove weeds and grass from fields by hand or using a hoe. Cultivate and hand-harvest mixed vegetables. Duties may include cleaning, field packing, loading and unloading harvested vegetables. May construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities. Field grade, sort, or classify vegetables by size, weight, color, or condition. Pre-harvest activities may include staking, tying, transplanting and pruning. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. May operate and perform minor maintenance on farm vehicles or equipment. May drive farm truck, van, tractor, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on the farm. May drive van over the road. Though not a hiring requirement, if a worker drives a company vehicle during the period of employment then at the time of operating the company vehicle the driver must possess a valid driver's license issued by a U.S. state or foreign equivalent and operate the company vehicle in accordance with the license restrictions and vehicle classifications applicable to that license. Prolonged walking, standing, bending, stooping and reaching. Job is outdoors and continues in all types of weather. The use or possession or being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol during working time is prohibited. Workers may be requested to submit to random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply or testing positive may result in immediate termination. All testing will occur post-hire and is not a part of the interview process. Negative result may be required post-hire and before commencing work. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. to shoulder height repetitively throughout the workday and able to lift and carry 75 lbs. in field. Must not hinder another worker's productivity. Requires one month verifiable prior work experience cultivating and hand-harvesting mixed vegetables. Must commit to entire anticipated period of employment. All workers are required to follow common sanitary practices at all times. This is particularly important when touching crops for human consumption. Workers are required to cleanse their hands by washing thoroughly with soap and water before entering field for harvest activities and after each break. Smoking and the use of tobacco products prohibited during working time. Workers may be required to perform work that is incidental to farming the crops listed in the application. All other duties, if any assigned, will be those duties of Farm Worker, Diversified Crops, DOT code 407.687-010 (SOC (ONET/OES)code 45-2092.02). This is a very demanding and competitive business in which quality specifications must be rigorously adhered to. Sloppy work cannot and will not be tolerated. The worker understands that if he abandons his employment or is terminated for cause prior to the end of the anticipated period of employment, the worker will forfeit the guarantee and reimbursement of certain transportation costs. Excessive absences and/or tardiness cannot be tolerated and may result in termination. Housing is group housing. If a female worker is hired, separate toilet, shower, and sleeping room will be provided. Family housing not available. The provision of family housing not a prevailing practice in the area of intended employment.
