Sensata Technologies, Inc. Product Quality Engineer in Attleboro, Massachusetts
The Product Quality leads product development Quality continuous improvement initiatives for a specific product technology/family with the goal to improve product robustness and quality performance at our customers. The Product quality engineer is or becomes a subject matter expert on engineering quality aspects of a specific product family / technology.
The product quality engineer supports product engineering roadmaps and customer product selections together with the cross functional teams at Sensata. The product quality engineer will critically evaluate the proposed product technology and supports implementation of Lessons Learned and best practices to guarantee all products meet company and industry quality standards.
The product quality engineer will need to possess a strong technical understanding of Sensata’s products and their applications, a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, and the motivation and ability to independently reach across geographical and cultural boundaries to solve problems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Setup and/or contribute to continuous improvement roadmap for assigned product family to reduce Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ)
Setting up, maintaining, and deploying Lessons Learned & best practices
Supports product engineering roadmaps and application product selection with cross functional team
Become Quality SME for a specific product family and supports NBO/customer projects.
Apply DFSS concepts and risk mitigations to assure development of zero-defect designs
Perform project quality tasks for Tech development projects.
Obtain deep understanding of product CTQs and application/system knowledge.
Understands reliability aspects of a specific product family and can contribute or lead reliability analyses of the specific product family / technology and contributes to FA strategy.
Understands product safety aspects of the product family and related applications and supports safety risk analysis.
A product Quality engineer can also be or become an expert on a specific Field as Reliability, FUSA, FMEA, etc. and act as an SME in this Field.
Lead and work collaboratively with a cross-functional Product Quality Steering Team (PQST) to guide and prioritize activities related to achieving targets for Customer Satisfaction and Cost of Poor Quality.
Maintain quality documentation of Product Safety and Regulatory Requirements with support from Marketing and Engineering teams.
Support investigations related to Quality stemming from New Business Opportunities.
Provide feedback to Business leaders about quality related financial and non-financial performance of the assigned products. Define and execute Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
Implement various methods to lead the Product Quality Steering Team, including, but not limited to: data gathering, analysis and communication of results to the PQST team and management, manage lessons learned lifecycle, define Product Quality Improvement Plan to clearly communicate and monitor timing and effectiveness of Quality improvement initiatives.
Utilize Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to link Safety & Regulatory and Reliability requirements to proper product testing and production controls, verify test coverage and adherence to Safety and Regulatory require, developing internal standards of Quality, develop standards for supply chain Quality, and influence Strategic sourcing decisions.
Champion for 8D’s within the assigned Product Family for the full lifecycle of the product including the Management of Product Integrity Alerts.
Provide Technical Expertise from the perspective of the Product Quality role Warranty risk assessment, potential application effects (vehicle system), and potential impacts to customer production as required by the organization.
Monitor relevant field and customer events for trends and escalate based on potential impacts regarding safety, regulatory, and finance.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATION
General
A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members
Holds self and others accountable to achieving goals and standards
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers
Good English language ability in reading, writing, and speaking.
Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
Job specific
Ideally a minimum of 3 Years of working experience in quality functions, and good knowledge of Quality Systems (ISO 9000 / TS16949 / VDA 6.3).
Be familiar with quality management and manufacturing processes; also familiar with AIAG manual: APQP, FMEA, MSA, PPAP and SPC a plus. Experience in process / product engineering is a plus.
Ability to develop unique, differentiated solutions to complex problems strong problem-solving skills (8D/5Why/Fishbone/Minitab)
Preferred 6 Sigma Green Belt or above
Experience with automotive / off-road industry
Experience with common Quality tools: PPAP, SPC, MSA, DFM, GD&T, APQP, FMEA, control plan, and 8D.
Experience with GD&T and drawing interpretation.
Experience with manufacturing process, process flow and CP implementation in the real mass production environment, and their improvements.
