If so, this is a wonderful and rare opportunity in the Azure Resource Manager team that develops the software infrastructure for management of services using Azure. The ARM team is looking for motivated engineers with a track record who are in search of an exciting environment working with innovative and revolutionary technology.

Azure Resource Manager’s (ARM) mission is to provide the control plane to Azure. Azure Resource Manager (ARM) is the distributed service that customers use to manage all resources (compute, storage, networking, SQL, etc.) in Azure.  It is a high scale platform processing billions of requests daily. All of the experiences in Azure (portal, command line, SDKs, etc.) build on top of Azure Resource Manager (ARM). ARM’s vision is to enable any customer (large to small) to organize, govern, secure, manage, deploy, and explore their environments at-scale. Anything we design, develop, or deliver aligns with this vision. The work done in this team has a multiplier effect for all services running on Azure as it delivers on a smart underlying infrastructure for everyone to use. The traditional methods of software delivery cannot keep up with the demand of developer innovation and business need, so we are innovating across all aspects of service delivery.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with great communication and collaboration skills to serve as a technical leader on the team. The position requires expertise of distributed system design, large scale service development and service analytics. As a Senior Software Engineer, you are an expert in these areas, you will find yourself applying your knowledge, validating your work in the fast-growing Azure cloud platform and enjoying a great sense of accomplishment. We are also looking for the developers with analytics mindset to tune the service and drive results with service analytics. You will be encouraged to come up with creative solutions for numerous hard problems. This opportunity will alow you to develop platform services to help code get to production faster and safer.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.

  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.

  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

You will be encouraged to come up with creative solutions for numerous problems like:

  • Developing platform services to help code get to production faster and safer.

  • Enabling customers to govern, manage, and track changes to their cloud resources.

  • Building smart systems that can automatically deploy and rollback.

  • Making all aspects of service management super-efficient, so more time is spent on writing customer value features.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience building scalable and reliable services.

  • Experience developing, debugging, and maintaining code in any programming language.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5 years of industry experience shipping cloud first services at scale.

  • Computer science fundamentals.

  • Ability to mentor junior developers and technically lead projects.

  • Hands-on experience with one or more cloud providers, including, Azure, AWS, GCP etc.

  • Experience building platform services to enable safe deployment, orchestration, and change management processes

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
