Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The Microsoft portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate Principal Technical Program Manager- Infrastructure to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Principal Technical Program Manager- Infrastructurer to join our dynamic team. The candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex cloud infrastructure programs, ensuring seamless integration of cloud services, and optimizing performance across the organization. As a Principal Technical Program Manager - Infrastructure, you will play a key role in driving the successful implementation and ongoing management of our cloud infrastructure initiatives.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and develop comprehensive cloud infrastructure strategies aligned with organizational goals.

  • Evaluate, innovate and recommend cloud technologies and services to enhance scalability, reliability, and performance at hyper scale.

Program Management:

  • Lead the end-to-end innovation, planning, execution, and delivery of cloud infrastructure programs, ensuring timely, within-budget, and sustain reliability of services for customers.

  • Establish clear project milestones, deliverables, and dependencies, and regularly communicate progress to stakeholders.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks associated with cloud infrastructure projects and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Proactively address issues, troubleshoot problems, and ensure the overall scalability of the cloud infrastructure from a mechanical and electrical approach.

Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration and communication among cross-functional teams, including Information Technology (IT), software teams, operations, datacenter engineering, and development teams.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, address concerns, and ensure alignment with business objectives across Microsoft.

Budget Oversight:

  • Develop and manage budgets for cloud infrastructure programs, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial targets.

  • Implement cost optimization strategies without compromising performance, reliability or scalability.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

  • Implement monitoring tools and processes to track the performance of cloud infrastructure solutions.

  • Continuously optimize resource utilization, scalability, and efficiency.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 5+ years experience in cloud infrastructure program management.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of cloud technologies, data center design, power, mechanical and network redundancy.

  • Proven project management skills with a focus on delivering results within scope, schedule, and budget and capital expenditure budgets.

  • Understanding of IT infrastructure, scalability, and risk management.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
