POSITION SUMMARY:

Greets each patient as they present to the clinic and determines reason for visit in order to assist patient or direct patient to appropriate service. Verifies appointments, case management, patient education, check-in appointments, etc. Provides ongoing customer service to patients in the waiting area and helps to reduce wait times as appropriate by communicating regularly with providers and patients regarding wait times. Makes announcements to waiting room area regarding clinic-wide changes. Assist patient with education about patient portal and sign-up. Educate patients in the waiting area about patient satisfaction surveys and other screening tools. Receives and greets clients/visitors, answer telephones, collects and inputs client’s demographics and financial information, including insurance cards, billing authorization, signatures, and consent forms. Verifies insurance, collects monies, and completes deposits, end-of-the day activities and schedule appointments. Input billing information using the Patient Care Network System. Uses verbal de-escalation techniques to calm a patient if he or she becomes frustrated, loud, or inappropriate. Alert security as needed. Also, has vast understanding of community resources to meet patient's social needs and provides those resources as appropriate to patients. Participates in health fairs or community events on weekends as requested 3-4 times a year.

Provides patient care and/ or support activities appropriate to ages served; primarily adults ages 18-65 or geriatric patients’ ages over 65. May also include care for infant age 0-1 year, child ages 1-12 years or adolescent ages 13-17 years.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School graduate, minimum of two years computer literacy, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Two to three years experience working in a private physician’s office or community health center preferred. Previous billing experience of at least one year working with Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s and Commercial Insurance a plus. Knowledge of community resources for housing, food, employment, etc. Foreign language may be required, preferably in Spanish and/or Vietnamese. Experience and knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines preferred. Candidate must be able to stand for long periods and walk for long periods throughout the day.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of medical terminology, with understanding of current ICD-10 and CPT Coding. Computer, word processing and spreadsheet experience required. Knowledge of general office procedures (fax, copier, adding machine) required.
