Emory Law welcomes qualified, future-focused events professionals to apply for its Events Manager position. The Events Manager will join the team to work collaboratively and proactively with students, faculty, and staff to plan major and a significant number of minor events for the school of law. As the subject matter expert on event management, the Events Manager is knowledgeable of university policy and best practices while creating memorable, cost-effective events. This is a seasonal position and works 10 months annually from approximately July 15 – May 15.

Job Description :

  • Plans and executes meetings, functions, and special events for multiple units and departments.

  • Collaborate with staff and clients to establish event goals and objectives by

  • developing and recommending event operating procedures,

  • establishing and managing event planning timelines,

  • creating task assignments, and

  • proposing resources needed to execute event.

  • Determines fiscal requirements for events, prepares budgetary recommendations, and negotiates terms with vendors.

  • Works with designers to create invitations, promotional and other printed materials.

  • Oversees and facilitates event briefing and coordination of speakers/presenters.

  • Provides leadership, direction, and coordination among speakers, staff, and volunteers during event program/production.

  • Prepares post-event analysis to assess opportunities and make recommendations for improving events and services to internal and external constituencies, and to implement recommendations as appropriate.

  • Seeks out innovative and creative ideas for events through research, networking, and continuing education classes.

  • May supervise staff.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

Additional Job Details

  • Plan and execute a significant number of small- to medium-sized meetings and functions as well as special events such as orientation, visiting day, and graduate recognition ceremony for the school of law while maintaining exceptional customer service.

  • Manage vendors’ adherence to our financial and university protocols.

  • Work with internal resources to ensure events are properly supported including work with the communications department to create invitations, promotional and other printed materials as well as the information technology department on audio/visual needs.

  • Ensure event clients consider dietary restrictions as well as cultural or religious factors when planning an event.

  • Ability and willingness to work events on evenings and weekends with advance notice.

  • May assist with the set-up or breakdown of an event which may require the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • May supervise or lead staff, including student employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and

  • Three years of related experience

An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training shall be considered in lieu of the minimum qualifications noted above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated customer service skills including clear, professional communication (both written and verbal).

  • Strong technology skills and demonstrated proficiency with computers and standard office, programs such as the MS Office Suite, especially Excel, and as well as events software such as 25-Live and other booking software.

  • Understanding of invoicing and billing processes.

  • Experience in a forward-facing support position.

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.

  • Experience in higher education, specifically with a graduate or professional school.

  • Demonstrated student-centered service.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated capacity for carrying out tasks in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Ability to recognize and set priorities.

  • Ability to master new skills quickly.

  • Good judgment as demonstrated by strong decision making and problem-solving skills.

To Apply:

  • First round zoom interviews occur in late September.

  • Final round in-person interviews occur in early October.

  • The position works primarily on campus with flexibility available per the Emory Law Flexible Workplace Policy.
