Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Acts as a principal editor and writer on the Communications & Marketing (C&M) Content and Brand Story team to support the goals and mission of the university.

  • Supervises a small team of writers dedicated to specific topic areas across the university, covering campus events and news of interest to audiences that include faculty, staff, students, alumni and the general public.

  • Pitches and provides coverage of key university initiatives, ranging from short announcements to long-form features.

  • Serves as a strategic leader within the content team, collaborating with the Assistant Vice President for Content and Brand Story to set overall editorial direction and align story assignments with Emory's brand and content pillars.

  • Establishes and maintains deadlines and production schedules.

  • Provides direction to writers, editors, photographers/videographers, graphic designers, freelancers and student assistants as needed.

  • Edits and proofreads own work and work of others for key university communications channels including the Emory News Center website, Emory Report email newsletters and Emory Magazine.

  • Utilizes analytics for evaluation and planning to ensure editorial content successfully communicates the university's strategic priorities to key audiences.

  • Leads strategic planning projects as assigned.

  • Serves as a liaison with other communications and marketing professionals across the university to ensure high-quality products and consistency in representing the university.

  • Builds strong relationships, anchored in trust and collegiality, with divisions and departments whose stories are being told.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or a related field and six years of progressive responsibility editing and writing news or communications materials, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Keen news judgment, strong writing and editing skills, and deep knowledge of AP Style.

  • Experience with content management systems, Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, Photoshop, social media platforms and other tools desirable.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice toemployee.
