Microsoft Corporation Datacenter Engineering Sustainability KPI Program Manager in Atlanta, Georgia

Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a Data Center Engineering Sustainability KPI Program Manager to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates should relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 50%.

Responsibilities

This role is responsible for building advanced analytics and automation capabilities and managing the team’s sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs) against annual goals for datacenter construction and engineering. The Datacenter Engineering Sustainability KPI Program Manager will lead all aspects of construction sustainability data collection, gap analysis, validation, aggregation, and calculation for internal and external reporting purposes. The role has a major analytical component, as well as a focus on developing and strengthening the processes for internal and external reporting. You should be comfortable working with imperfect data, identifying sources of uncertainty, and potential solutions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with business stakeholders to understand goals and determine how data can be used to achieve them

  • Analyzing data and sharing meaningful insights (across embodied carbon, datacenter equipment, and waste).

  • Using statistical and analytical methods including AI toolsand machine learning techniques to make predictions and decisions from large datasets.

  • Set up and track metrics to assess progress against our goals.

  • Develop reports, dashboards and metrics which distill complex data into actionable insights to inform product decisions, forecasting initiatives, and which drive business strategy

  • Responding to technical requests related to data management and data entry in Microsoft’sEnvironmental, social, and governance (ESG) Value chain tool.

  • Qulity Assurance/Quality Control annual supplier data as entered in Microsoft’s ESG Value chain tool.

  • Ensure and set up collection systems for the accuracy and completeness of all records for auditing and verification purposes

  • Coordinating project level support for implementation

  • Monthly data reconciliation of embodied carbon at the project level

  • Monthly data reconciliation of waste data at the project level

  • Engage Environment, health and safety (EHS) and Engineering to understand retrofit plans for datacenter equipment and investigate feasibility of circularity in design and retrofits.

  • Manage data and address gaps related to the internal sustainability leaderboard andcreate new data views as needed.

  • Engage and onboard Construction Manger’s and suppliers/general contractors with sustainability data requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Other Requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering and/or Bachelor's or Master’s degree in data science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or equivalent data-science experience.  

  • 5 years of relevant professional and/or academic experience.  

  • Experience with Scope 3 calculations and carbon accounting

  • Construction lifecycle knowledge is a plus (not required)

  • Highly skilled in project management.

  • Demonstrated ability to write, speak, and present information effectively and persuasively.

  • Analytical and organizational skills.

  • Interpersonal skills; ability to lead and be proactive.

  • Problem-solving, judgment, team building, and decision-making skills.

  • Experience using Power BI, developing Power Apps

  • Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, and Excel including effective reporting/presentations of project information.

  • Experience using Carbon Accounting Software (i.e. EC3) and PowerBI

Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
