Addiction Recovery Care Mental Health Technician ( PRN / Part-Time ) in Ashland, Kentucky

We are hiring a PRN/Part-Time Mental Health Technician for our growing team in our in-patient psychiatric hospital division!  You will p rovide direct and indirect patient care throughout the client/patient's stay while providing for the personal care and comfort of clients. The possibility of going to Full-Time is highly achievable in this rewarding position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs and records patient vital signs and notifies RN of any changes.

  • Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status, and activities, and notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences.

  • Demonstrates the ability to identify behaviors that require intervention.

  • Escorts and observes clients during activities, meals, visitation, and groups.

  • Able to perform patient safety checks at scheduled times, and documents appropriately.

  • Demonstrates the ability to set limits for patients and other de-escalation techniques.

  • Orients patients to the facility.

  • Acts as a liaison to all areas of persons served/client care, medical staff, admission staff, nursing staff, and clinical staff.

  • Participates in treatment team meetings. Communicate appropriately and clearly.

  • Perform 15-minute observation rounds and documents appropriately.

  • Assists in the orientation of new staff members.

  • Assists with therapeutic educational groups in conjunction with the nursing and clinical team. 

  • Responsible for one-on-one observation and constant visual observation of high-risk patients.

  • Responsible for assisting patients needing additional care related to medical needs.

  • Provides general nursing care, i.e., transferring patients and assisting with daily activities (ADLs).

  • Follow all safety rules while on the job.

  • Reports errors and accidents promptly.

  • Communicates and corrects minor safety hazards.

  • Attends all required safety programs and understands responsibilities related to general, department, and job-specific safety.

  • May be required to facilitate groups and individuals in a Peer-Led manner and document accordingly.

    Key Experience and Education Needed:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED. 

  • CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification to be obtained.

  • Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant certification

  • Required: Previous experience in a healthcare setting

  • Preferred: One (1) year of experience as a mental health technician

  • May substitute experience for education

    Other Qualifications to be Considered:

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills within the facility and with the public.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills 

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Detail-oriented and persuasive.

  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful conditions.

  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to prioritize work and work-related responsibilities 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle crisis situations in a calm and supportive manner

  • Participate in staff and state regulatory training as required 

  • Adhere to program policies and procedures while maintaining a professional code of ethics
