Position Purpose
The Outagamie County Land Conservation Department is seeking an Intern to assist with soil and water conservation projects. This position is a temporary full time position. This position will report directly to the Environmental Engineer.
This job is located in the Land Conservation Department located at 3365 W. Brewster Street in Appleton, WI.
Hours for this role are:
8:00 AM -4:30 PM Monday through Friday
Desired Start date for this role is Mid-May 2024.
About Us Land Conservation:
The Land Conservation Department works to promote sustainable land use management for long-term conservation of land, water, and other natural resources of Outagamie County. These resources support our county's agricultural, industrial, and recreational needs.
The department carries out the majority of the county's conservation programs and policies, and provides educational, technical, and conservation planning assistance to help landowners, land users, and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with Pheasants Forever Pollinator program by performing site preparation, mowing, and planting of pollinators.
Assist with Drainage Board annual inspections by utilizing mobile apps and mapping.
Provide assistance to field staff surveying, designing, and installing conservation practices.
Provide assistance with mapping, planning, and engineering projects based on academic background.
Other support duties as assigned.
Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements
Candidate should be enrolled in a natural resources, engineering, or environmental sciences degree program or recently graduated.
Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.
Must possess a valid State of Wisconsin driver's license.
Required or Preferred Skills
Experience operating agricultural equipment like small tractors, mowers, seeders a plus.
Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Experience or ability to operate all-terrain vehicles.
Ability to work independently and maintain regular attendance
