As a member of this team, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day business and administrative functioning of the Department of Social Work.

The Michigan Medicine Department of Social Work supports and serves patients dealing with psychosocial issues/concerns, bereavement, domestic violence/sexual assault, diagnosis and illness. We provide counseling referrals and offer guidance on long- and short-term caregiver needs, long-term discharge planning, housing concerns and Advance Directive issues. In addition, we have limited resources to assist qualifying patients with emergency clothing, transportation, food and prescription needs.

As the Financial Specialist you will be supporting the financial and business operations of the Department of Social Work. This role is part of the Social Work Administrative Team, a dynamic team that supports the administrative operations of the Department.

Responsibilities*

This 40-hour position is responsible foradministrative support for fiscal operations and financial transactions as a member of the Social Work Administrative Team. You will be responsible for:

  • Accounts receivable/payable

  • Deposits

  • Cash receipts

  • Gift fund processing

  • Internal Controls (monthly review and annual report)

  • Develop and pull position control monthly reports and as needed

  • Salary setting request submission

  • Statement of Activity and Gross Pay Register

  • Pull and review monthly SOA and GPR reports

  • Personnel Action Request Submission ? differentials, perquisites, changes in salary/classification

  • Backup for appointment change/onboarding PARs

  • GAP (Guest Assistance Program) bills

  • Processing hotel and transportation invoices through MPathways

  • Medicaid meal billing in MiChart

  • Pcards (expense reports)

  • Approvals - all department Pcards

  • Review charges/assure receipts are included

  • Gift fund reconciliation and financial reports related to Gift Funds

  • Vendor/Supplier setup and maintenance

  • Partner with contracting and procurement as needed.

  • Tuition Reimbursement processing

  • Assist with HR/compensation projects as needed

  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor?s degree with 1 year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications*

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and people skills

  • Strong customer service focus

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills

  • Significant comfort working within Excel and pulling financial reports

  • Ability to work independently and regularly exercise judgment in setting priorities

  • Ability to compose and produce professional correspondence

  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point and Access

  • Basic email and calendaring system skills and have reasonable knowledge of university Policies and Procedures

Work Schedule

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday with start and end times 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5:00.

Work Locations

This will be a hybrid position with a balance of in-person and remote work. In person work would be at the main campus, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive - UH South

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
