Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

Participates in all aspects of administration of SJMHS hospital employed Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in the Department of Orthopedics. Responsible for developing, assessing, planning, and implementing policies and procedures within the Orthopedic Department for Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs). Responsibilities will also include the Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Orthopedic APP in the Emergency Room, Operating Room and on the Floor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluation and coordination of schedules (including moonlighting) for the Orthopedic APPs. Assist in the oversite and implementation of Quality and Safety goals, objectives, and initiatives. Assist in implementation and coordination of designated revenue and productivity tracking tools. Assist in review of delineation of authorized functions, OPPE and FPPE evaluations. Assist in implentation and ongoing 360 reviews. Maintain tracking of Prescriptive privilege forms. Oversee and monitor day to day services of Orthopedic APPs with at least monthly reporting to the Director of APPs. Assist with recruitment, retention and staffing of Orthopedic APPs ensuring the safety of patient care. Coordinate and maintain records for Orthopedic APP shadows. Facilitate clear communication and employee engagement within team. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places. Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Health System Adheres to SJMHS “Performance Standards – Focus on Others”. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, patients and families. Report s all preventable hazards and unsafe practices including near misses and actual errors either to management or using the SJMHS anonymous reporting system (PEERS).

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance of knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences and seminars.

2. Participation in professional development activities with maintenance of professional affiliations and certifications according to SJMHS policies and state codes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Current State of Michigan license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Credentialed SJMHS APP

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with APPs, supervising physicians, moonlighters and administrators. Strong computer skills with willingness to learn additional software as needed .
