Job Description

3rd Shift Group Leader MOE5

Lead shopfloor associates in Safety, Quality, and Cost driven performance. Monitor shift results to KPI targets to meet departmental objectives and react quickly to deviations to product flow and equipment/operational topic. Manage all production and personnel activities on shift.

Overview of Major Duties:

1. Safety and Emergency Response

a. Lead by example for safety culture.

b. Understand and communicate emergency procedures to team members.

2. Ensure Standards/Targets are met and identify immediate measures:

a.Responsible for ensuring Standards are adhered to (e.g. hourly production targets, standardized work, machine standards, personnel, material flow, level schedule, autonomous maintenance, 5S, etc.) and provide reporting, as required.

b. Responsible for leading team to achieve safety, quality, cost and production targets.

c. Manage deviations (e.g. quality, technical, logistical, etc.) in a structured manner, identify and carry out immediate corrective actions (involving cross functional resources). Follow escalation policy and procedures.

d. Perform process confirmation to identify and resolve deviations per standard.

3. Actively develop and improve Standards in collaboration with appropriate Resources:

a. Understand the department's focus and identify levers of improvement to support Improvement Projects.

b. Perform analysis to identify and drive improvements to Standards.

c. Develop and implement standards/improvements working with other GL’s and cross functional resources as appropriate. Gain approval from Operations Leader, as appropriate.

d. Execute improvement projects and Process Confirmation (e.g. Project ownership, critical standards improvements, execution of idea cards, Point CIP etc.).

4. Ensure Team is Trained to the Standards

a. Ensure team members are trained to the standards and qualified to perform the operation.

b. Mentor direct reports on identifying deviations and escalating to appropriate resource.

c. Staff line/area to schedule and manage job assignments.

d. Engage team in relevant updates to standards.

5. Initiate Problem Solving and actively support resolution:

a. Initiate appropriate problem solving activities when deviations occur (e.g. A3, Hot Leads, Shainin Splits, KT, Point CIP, 5-Why, etc.).

b. Participate in and/or own improvement projects within scope of control.

c. Ensure effectiveness of corrective actions by using appropriate confirmation tools.

6. Develop & Mentor Team Members:

a. Act as Team role model, lead by example to positively influence team to achieve goals.

b. Ensure training strategy is developed and followed (e.g. new hire, cross training, etc.).

c. Translate KPIs to relevant meaning for team members.

d. Identify coaching and mentoring opportunities of team members to align the team to the value stream strategy by asking questions, leading mentee to answer and explain why.

e. Recognize team and individual accomplishments.

f. Ensure Operators achieve required skill level. Mentor/support further development as requested.

7. Performance Management, Conflict Resolution & Disciplinary Actions for Direct Reports

a. Responsible for performance management of direct reports (e.g. reviews, developmental measures, and goal setting).

b. Investigate/counsel/document negative performance issues (e.g. counseling cards, EAP) and provide ongoing documented performance feedback (positive and negative).

c. Conduct disciplinary actions per company policy after consulting with Operations Leader and HRL.

8. Internal/External Policy Compliance:

a. Inform/support team members on policies and ensure their compliance (e.g. HRL, HSE, etc.).

b. Adhere and administer to company policies and procedures (e.g. payroll, overtime, incident reporting, shift preference, etc.).

9. Communication with Team:

a. Responsible for leading standard meetings within the scope of their control (e.g. shift meetings, roundtables, one on one meetings, etc.).

b. Responsible for communicating relevant plant wide and departmental information to their team.

c. Conduct GL pass down between shifts (e.g. open issues, etc.).

d. Provide information about company sponsored assistance where appropriate (e.g. Wellness, EAP, charitable opportunities, etc.)

Qualifications

Indefinite U.S. work authorized individuals only. Future sponsorship for work authorization is unavailable.

Position Skill Requirements :

  • General awareness of safety policies/procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to recognize possible production losses, analyze line performance and address line performance issues.

  • General knowledge of Quality System to ensure quality standards/alerts are up to date and met (e.g. PQI's, etc).

  • General knowledge of BPS principles and tools.

  • Experience in the use of the PDCA process. Ability to understand, do, and teach.

  • Ability to mentor others, engage, and lead teams in sustainable problem solving process.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with various levels.

  • Demonstration of different problem solving techniques and root cause analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to give constructive feedback.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • Prior leadership experience preferred

  • Advanced Level preferred

  • Process and equipment knowledge in the area.

  • Demonstration of standardized work tools to perform cycle time studies, use of and intent of standardized work documents, and process analysis. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply data.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams through deviations of standardized work.

  • Experience and ability to translate KPIs into line performance.

  • Knowledge of company policy and procedures (HSE, HR).

  • Ability to assess and deliver associate performance evaluations based on KPI and adherence to standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to seek understanding first and demonstrate active listening, communicate effectively to teams and individuals.

Internal Bosch Applicants Must Meet the below requirements:

General Eligibility Requirements that must be met in order to bid on open positions:

Must have satisfactory or above average job performance and good attendance.

  • No uncorrected warnings (within the past 12 months)

  • Must meet the following skill level/requirements:

  • Operators – Proficient

  • Technicians - Skilled, plus 2 years Bosch experience

  • Professionals (MFE, HR, LOG, PJM, QMM) – 2yrs Bosch experience.
