Summary

SUMMARY: The AHD Respiratory Care Practitioner II is responsible for the safe, appropriate and timely respiratory assessment and care of all patients served at Alameda Hospital, on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

  1. Administer, monitor and asses patient response to a variety of ambient, positive pressure and oxygen enriched modalities.

  2. Assess the respiratory status of inpatients and outpatients. Assess the appropriateness of all respiratory care orders; recommending changes or appropriate interventions as necessary to medical and nursing staff. Assess/initiate/monitor continuous ventilation in a newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric setting.

  3. Collaborates with other healthcare providers at the Hospital to optimize patient care. Maintains privacy and confidentiality at all times.

  4. Demonstrates ability to use resources available in the work setting. Ability to perform a Flow Volume Loop and to assist Pulmonologist with Bronchoscopy Equipment.

  5. Follows all Hospital and Departmental Policy and Procedures including Universal Precautions, HIPPPA and Safety. Assumes responsibility for knowing and following guidelines in the Environmental Health and Safety Binder as well as the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

  6. Interpret arterial blood gas values and recommend appropriate interventions. Performs duties independently, using profession-based judgment and decision-making consistent with professional practice. Documents therapy completely and includes modality response. Prioritizes duties and responsibilities on an ongoing basis, as well as during an emergency.

  7. Respond to all CODE 3, CODE BLUE, RRT and STAT calls to assess and maintain airway. Initiate and maintain one person CPR for 5 minutes.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Education: Successful completion of an AMA approved school of Respiratory Care.

Preferred Licenses/Certification: Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification (NRP), issued by AHA.

Required Licenses/Certifications:Basic Life Support Certification (BLS), issued by American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS), issued by preferred.
