Vontier Director of Software Engineering - HYBRID in Akron, Ohio

JOB PURPOSE:

The Director of Engineering will provide strategic leadership and oversees the software development lifecycle for specific DRB product lines. This includes developing and communicating a clear vision for software development aligned with the company’s goals. The role will implement Agile methodologies, foster innovation, and work with both internal and external customers. Additionally, this role will drive technology roadmaps, design, and resource planning. Team management, including hiring, mentoring, and overseeing software development teams, is also included in this role. Operational excellence involves maintaining the delivery schedule, addressing software defects, and cultivating external partnerships across the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports product delivery success across all development teams through direction, guidance, consultation, etc.

  • Contributes to work estimates, project schedules, and assessing project risks.

  • Works with the Program Managers to manage prioritization and resource allocation.

  • Works with Development Leads, Product Owners and the Program Manager to determine implementation strategies, time estimates and delivery commitments.

  • Assists QA, Technical Support and other departments with escalated technical issues.

  • Coordinates efforts across multiple development teams to ensure solutions are delivered on time and minimize integration risks.

  • Collaborates with business stakeholders regularly to ensure alignment on resource utilization and goals, and that key decisions, assignments, and dependencies are clearly articulated and understood.

  • Leads multiple teams of developers providing mentoring and overseeing technical guidance for the teams such as architecture.

  • Oversees the UI/UX design/direction, while attempting to satisfy market requirements as defined by Product Management.

  • Provides guidance on technical debt/platform ROI and prioritization.

  • Ensures that products meet scalability, usability, security, business needs and other requirements.

  • Participates in discussions with customers, partners, etc.

  • Participates in M&A due diligence (as needed).

  • Manages efforts required for certifications, audits, assessments, etc.

  • Leads the adoption of best-in-class software engineering practices, tools and frameworks.

  • Maintains awareness of market trends, unmet customer and consumer needs and how technology can be used to create a competitive advantage.

  • Leads in the monitoring of programmer deliverables for code quality, security and adherence to styles and standards.

  • Customer Focus: Ensuring that the internal or external customer’s perspective is a driving force behind strategic priorities, business decisions, organizational processes, and individual activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet customers’ and organizational needs; promoting customer service as a value.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Team management, including hiring, mentoring, performance reviews and overseeing software development teams. Instructs, monitors, and effectively manages resources. Motivates, develops and directs people as they work. Identifies the best people for the job.

  • Fostering a work environment that encourages people to act with integrity and treat each other and their ideas with respect; creating and protecting a high-trust environment by setting an example, advocating for others when faced with challenges, removing barriers, and rewarding others for demonstrating behaviors that cultivate trust.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA or higher in computer science, information systems, or related field.

  • Previous working experience (3-5 years) as a software engineering manager or director

Skill Sets:

  • Familiarity using Azure DevOps or similar tools.

  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and an SDLC.

  • Familiarity with System and Software Architecture and design.

  • Familiarity with Public Cloud such as Azure, AWS, or GCP and SaaS solutions.

  • Ability to speak directly with internal and external customers regarding architecture, development process, etc.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
