Trinity Health Clinical Informatics Senior Nurse Specialist in Waterbury, Connecticut

JOB SUMMARY The Clinical Informatics Senior Nurse Specialist, under the guidance of the Regional Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO), is responsible for the analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other clinical information systems that impact clinical end users in both the hospital and ambulatory setting throughout the region. The Clinical Informatics Senior Nurse Specialist is a change agent working with the System Office, operational leadership, physicians, nurses and other clinical specialties in the design and implementation phases of projects, as well as ensuring that appropriate procedures and processes are developed for sustaining the application of new systems and projects. This position contributes knowledge from a comprehensive understanding of nursing/clinical processes and practice standards, clinical informatics systems, patient flow, and operational processes to contribute to the use of data as a foundation for accurate, reliable and clinically meaningful measurements. The Clinical Informatics Senior Nurse Specialist serves as a primary liaison between System Office, operational leadership within the organization and the Clinical Informatics Team to communicate user needs and facilitate system modifications. This position requires travel to multiple facilities within the region.


Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or Nursing Informatics preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: Minimum three years’ experience as top level user of clinical information systems; advanced leadership skills as developed through 4-7 years of progressive responsibility as a leader

Knowledge: Working knowledge of nursing theory, clinical practice, information science, information management, data management systems, Clinical Information System applications and configuration.

License: Registered nursing license in appropriate state

Certification: Certification in Nursing Informatics by ANCC preferred, or CPHIMSS certification

Ability to identify clinical competencies required for the use of advanced technology solutions. Articulates skills, knowledge and abilities which lead to competent, advanced and expert use of advanced technologies. Maintains knowledge in regulatory requirements at the local, state and federal level Assists with educational implementation for clinical practitioners as directed. Works with Project Management team to ensure goals and timelines are met.

Uses strategic planning with clinical leaders to ensure the quality and safety of patient care are maintained during system deployments.

Participates in vendor contract process, representing clinical departments and processes

Exemplifies collaboration and partnerships to empower multi-disciplinary teams.

Understands the art of negotiation, empowerment and motivation.

Manages partnerships at all levels of the organization recognizing the value of all clinicians, the vendors and all stakeholders to ensure patient care goals are met and return on investment strategies are clearly articulated .

Awareness of technology acquisitions in the organization and impact on clinicians and clinical processes

Utilizes effective leadership skills and management techniques to effect transformation. Collaborates on strategic vision for technology in the organization.

Works to ensure the financial and strategic goals of the organization are realized as advanced technologies are implemented.

Interrelationships involved with data integration between units, departments and specialty areas.

Processes needed to develop plans for utilization of computerized systems.

Implementation of changes needed to accomplish improved workflows.
