Summary The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) is looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as a Student Trainee (Legal). This is a temporary 2025 Summer Internship position. This Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA) may be used to fill other Student Trainee (Legal), GS-0999-7 positions within the FRTIB in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience. Responsibilities The FRTIB is filling a Summer 2025 legal internship position. This position is expected to begin at the end of May or early June and will extend through the summer. In rare situations, this appointment may be extended. As a Student Trainee (Legal), you will: draft legal memorandums and briefs; assist with conducting legal research in the areas of pension, tax, administrative law, privacy, procurement, investments, and loan activities of the FRTIB; assist with legal analysis; and analyze factual and legal issues. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. All qualification requirements must be met prior to appointment. Trial period may be required. Selective Service. Background Suitability Investigation. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background investigation and the granting of a federal suitability or security clearance. Pathways Intern Program Requirements: (1) meet the definition of a student for the duration of the appointment and sign a participant agreement. Qualifications Eligibility: Accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution, on at least a half-time basis; or Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program or Peace Corps); and Be in good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0). Minimum Qualifications: One full year of graduate level education as defined by the educational institution; OR SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: Based on a Bachelor's degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); grade point average (3.0/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR -Selected Placement Factors (SPF) are special qualification requirements, in addition to the minimum requirements, that are essential in successfully performing the duties of this job. Completion of at least one year of enrollment at an accredited law school (as defined by the educational institution). One full academic year graduate education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be verified through your transcripts or enrollment verification, an academic year is as follows: 18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent Education Foreign Education. If you are using education completed at foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign education programs. Foreign education must be deemed equivalent to that gained at an accredited U.S. education program.
