Position Summary

The Communications Intern provides a variety of Communications/Public Affairs support to the Corporate Communications team at WGL. This position will assist the WGL Corporate Communications team in its role of informing customers, employees and other stakeholders about company operations and industry trends. The position helps to create engaging content, performs research activities, data compilation and analysis and assists in event planning and coordination.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assists in conducting research, compiling data or documents to summarize communications activity

  • Assists in packing, transporting, setting-up and breaking down materials for communications events

  • Assists with development and transfer of content to new internal communications platform

  • Assists in producing creative content as assigned

  • Assists with social media content creation

  • Participates in meetings and actively engages in discussion to enhance corporate communications activities

  • Actively engages in planning timelines to ensure milestone targets are met

  • Prepares accurate talking points for customers and stakeholders

  • Demonstrates initiative by seeking opportunities to contribute to the success of the event and supporting activity

  • May create content, material signage and slide presentations

  • May coordinate activity related to catering or facilities logistics

  • May take digital photos or video for inclusion in company publications

  • May collaborate across Public Affairs divisions

  • May enter guest data into a database system and prepare guest check-in materials

  • Be helpful, friendly, and willing to assist with other duties as appropriate

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Requires enrollment at an accredited four-year college or university with a technical or business discipline

  • Preferably rising Sophomore or Junior

  • Demonstrated professional demeanor and good interpersonal skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to set-up and proficiently operate technology.

  • Demonstrated attention to details

  • Strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.

  • Ability to utilize the internet or other tools to conduct research and utilize systems to report and present data.

  • Demonstrated good time management and organizational skills.
