Trinity Health Pharmacy Technician (Full Time) in Syracuse, New York
Assists the pharmacist in preparing medications for dispensing. Does not dispense any medication that isn't double checked by a registered pharmacist. Is directly responsible for running the pharmacy robot and maintaining stock in automated dispensing cabinets. Draws up doses in the IV class 10,000 clean room utilizing a class 100 laminar flow hood and aseptic technique. Performs pharmacy stock QA inspections on all nursing units. Makes delivery/pickup rounds to unit and departments and performs computer order entry functions. Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisors/pharmacists. Provides customer service by processing paper, electronic and phone requests for medications. Medication Reconciliation – Under direct supervision of the Medication Reconciliation Pharmacist assumes responsibility for developing a list of current medications for patients in Pre-Admission Testing, Emergency Room or has been directly admitted. The Medication Reconciliation Technician will gather all information that is needed to completely reconcile patients Medication History. Is responsible for obtaining additional Medication History from outside sources when necessary. Assumes responsibility for completing the Medication Reconciliation Forms in a timely manner so it can be used as the patients admitting orders. Accurately enters information into the hospital information system for utilization by the Physician responsible for discharging or releasing the patient from the hospital.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE;
High School diploma required. Some previous pharmacy related or hospital clinical background preferred. Preference will be given to nationally certified pharmacy technicians.
Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Completes population specific competency annually on populations served as identified in scope of care and service.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Typing, computer keyboard, calculative skills, oral communication skills, and fax machine operation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
Clinical setting: Exposure Class I or II based on responsibilities. Class II = no exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions, or secretions. Rare/infrequent exposure to chemicals with the potential to causes skin/mucous membrane irritation.
Medium work: must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull.
