Medical Assistant Multi-Specialty Role Purpose:

The Medical Assistant, under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting. The Medical Assistant is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination/procedure, sterilization of medical instruments and administering medications as directed by provider or designee. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records and filling out insurance forms/paperwork. Provides patient care to specific departments/clinics as needed for coverage.

Certified Medical Assistant/Registered Medical Assistant Multi-Specialty Role Purpose:

The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant – Multi-specialty, under the direction of the physician or other designated licensed staff, provides routine patient care in an ambulatory setting. The CMA/RMA is able to work as part of a team and perform both clinical and administrative duties. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination/procedure, sterilization of medical instruments and administering medications as directed by provider or designee. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records and filling out insurance forms/paperwork. Depending upon location and/or department may perform phlebotomy duties as well.

LPN Multi-Specialty Role Purpose:

The LPN, Multi- Specialty is responsible for performing nursing procedures, administering medications, and assisting the physician with total patient care.

Paramedic Multi-Specialty Role Purpose:

The Paramedic – Multi-Specialty is responsible for performing procedures, administering medications, and assisting the physician with total patient care in an ambulatory setting within the scope of the paramedic’s practice. The Paramedic duties may include: taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, obtaining preliminary visit information, preparing patients for examination procedure, sterilization of medical instruments, administering medications and screening telephone calls related to patient care using set protocols and standing orders as resources and consulting with a RN or medical provider for situations outside of established protocols. The Paramedic may also act as a scribe by documenting (on behalf of the provider) all clinically relevant interaction and dialogue during the course of the patient visit.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manages patient flow and performs patient rooming standards.

  2. Assists medical providers and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients; assists with patient flow in department.

  3. Demonstrates and understands sterile and aseptic techniques. Uses appropriate techniques in setting up or assisting with procedure.

  4. Completes Laboratory and Medical Imaging requisitions, assists in the scheduling of procedures.

  5. Assists medical provider with processing of diagnostic results.

  6. Transports patients to other departments and acts as courier for specimens, x-rays, and/or medical records.

  7. Administers medications by all routes excluding intravenous infusion. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques, recognizes and reports effects and side effects of medication, and instructs patient appropriately.

  8. Collects and records accurate telephone information and relays it to medical provider or nurse in a timely manner.

  9. Cleans, prepares, and autoclaves equipment and instruments in preparation for sterilizations per infection control policies and procedures.

  10. Provides patient education only under the direction of medical provider or nurse.

  11. Performs delegated MD/Nursing acts commensurate with education, training, competency and experience.

  12. Depending upon location and/or department may be responsible for performing the following responsibilities:

a. Basic computer scheduling, rescheduling, canceling and coordination of appointments.

b. Auditing of charge tickets for 24 hour turnover and manages nursing work ques by providing procedure and diagnosis codes.

  1. Assists in emergency situations.

  2. Cross train and staff other departments as needed.

  3. Participates in site process improvement teams.

  4. Performs other duties as required.

  5. Is responsible to learn all department as directed.

  6. Maintains coverage for staff (LOA’s, vacations, sick time)

Qualifications

MA Multi-Specialty Required:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Graduation from an approved school of Medical Assisting.

  3. Must receive credential as a Medical Assistant within the first 6 months of employment. Acceptable credential includes Registered Medical Assistant (RMA, through the AMT organization only) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).

  4. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

  5. Pleasant, outgoing personality.

  6. Good communication and organization skills.

  7. Ability to travel to other sites as needed.

CMA Multi-Specialty Required:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent with graduation from an approved school of Medical Assisting and Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant OR direct, hands on patient care experience with Dean and current Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant.

  2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

  3. Pleasant, outgoing personality.

  4. Good communication and organization skills.

  5. Ability to travel to different locations as needed.

LPN Multi-Specialty Required:

  1. State licensure or eligible for State licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

  2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

  3. Ability to travel to other locations.

  4. Flexibility to work in variety of specialties.

Paramedic Multi-Specialty Required:

  1. State licensure as a Paramedic.

  2. Must complete and pass the Proficiency Assessment delivered at the conclusion of the onboarding program.

  3. Pleasant, outgoing personality.

  4. Good communication and organization skills.

  5. Ability to travel to different locations as needed.

Preferred:

  1. Experience with an electronic medical record (i.e., Epic)

  2. Relevant experience

  7. Ability to safely lift up to 20 pounds and to push/pull up to 100 pounds when moving boxes, equipment or objects.

  8. Ability to bend/twist and crouch when performing various job tasks.

  9. Ability to work with and to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with bloodborne pathogens or other chemicals.

  10. Ability to wear a respirator/mask.
