Trinity Health Nurse Manager - ASU/PACU/ENDO in Springfield, Massachusetts

Nurse Manager oversees the clinical and operational aspects of Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, Endoscopy, Infusion Clinic, Pain Clinic, and Anti-coag. Clinic Coordinates activities between defined areas, and provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise in area assigned in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the Nursing Department at Mercy Medical Center. Facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and assists in developing collegial relationships among nursing personnel and others. Able to serve as a link between nursing personnel, other health care disciplines, workers throughout the organization, and the health care community. Nurse Managers have twenty-four hour responsibility and accountability for the implementation of the vision, mission, philosophy, core values, evidence-based practice, and quality of the organization and nursing services within their defined areas of responsibility.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Ensures that care is delivered with respect for individuals’ rights and preferences.

Participates in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making involving staff.

Accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients.

Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of health care for the surgical patient. Accountable for quality initiatives for core measures, ACT initiatives and patient satisfaction.

Coordinates nursing care with other health care disciplines, and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care. Supports the Care Coordination model.

Provides guidance for and supervision of personnel accountable to the Nurse Manager. Participates in the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel, including staff representative of the population diversity. Evaluates performance of personnel.

Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling personnel. Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel, considering scope of practice, competencies, patient/client/resident needs, and complexity of care.

Ensures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional development for personnel.

Assesses the impact of, and plans strategies to address, such issues as:

  • Ethnic, cultural and diversity changes in the population
  • Political and social influences
  • Financial and economic issues
  • The aging of society and demographic trends
  • Ethical issues related to health care

Develops, implements, monitors, and is accountable for the budget for the defined area(s) of responsibility.

Ensures evidence-based practice by participating in and involving the nursing staff in evaluative research activities. Provides or facilitates educational experiences for nursing and other students. Ensures shared accountability for professional practice.

Advocates for a work environment that minimizes work-related illness and injury. Ensures compliance with any applicable regulatory agencies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Currently registered in Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Three (3) to five (5) years demonstrated clinical and management experience.

Knowledge of nursing practices normally acquired by completing a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Masters in Nursing or health related field or actively working toward preferred.

CPR certification required, Instructorship preferred (Acute). ACLS certification required and Instructorship preferred in critical care areas (ER, Critical Care, IMC).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A few unpleasant conditions routinely present (cramped working space, drafty area, poor lighting, inadequate equipment or refurnishings); or occasional exposure to occupational hazards or contagious disease, which requires routine precautions.

Constant work demands and irregularity of hours create considerable inconvenience for home and social life planning, such as frequent availability, or constant shift rotation or location imposes frequent interruptions and distractions that are bothersome and not inherent in the work and the work requires frequent substantive involvement in stressful situations causing considerable strain routinely.

Requires prolonged standing, walking, or other constant physical movements on a routine basis; or requires remaining in same position over long periods of time; or eye or ear strain.

Reports to the Director of Nursing.

Responsible for direct supervision of 5 to 100+ employees.
