Trinity Health CT Tech full time 32 hrs 2nd shift with weekend rotation in Springfield, Massachusetts

Mercy Medical Center - According to Radiologist's directions and established procedures, operates computerized tomography (CT) scanner to obtain filmed or softcopy images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Positions patients for procedure, prepares patient for injection of radiopaque media, operates scanners to visualize pathologies, manipulates images to find best image possible, and reproduces screen images on film if needed.

  • Transfers patients to CT table, assists patients with posi­tion­ing, and applies immobilization devices as necessary. Explains procedures to patients to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation.
  • Prepares injections of radiopaque media for examinations following established sterile techniques and methods.
  • Operates scanner's computerized controls and enters commands necessary to visualize and manipulate screen images. Operates various peripheral equipment, including an injector.
  • Manipulates tomographic image by changing mean and window through computerized controls, and changes degree of angulation to obtain best possible image.
  • Maintains required files and records, and performs patient tracking in real time.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs. Ensures necessary maintenance and repairs are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Schedules tomographic examinations in order to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment.
  • Instructs and demonstrates tomography equipment operation, filming, and other technical aspects for Radiology students and/or other hospital personnel.
  • Completes and maintains the hospital’s annual IV Performance Competency in order to start IV insertions.
  • Keeps current regarding developments, trends and techniques in CT procedures and equipment through appropriate technical journals or in-service and educational programs in order to maintain and enhance expertise. Maintains compliance in State Radiation Control, Joint Commission and/or regulatory requirements.


  • Work requires the level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of an Associate's degree program in Radiologic Technology. Two years' experience in radiologic technology preferred.

  • Massachusetts license and A.R.R.T. registration required. C.T. registration preferred. Registration as a C.T. technologist within 3 years of hire.

  • Work requires the analytical ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in‑depth, experienced‑based knowledge.
  • Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This may include explaining clinical, technical and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, comforting patients and their families, enforcing policies and regulations in difficult situations, or performing other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.
  • Work requires providing direct patient care to pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Work requires the ability to enter words and data into a computer or similar device.


  • Requires working in an area in which there is exposure to radiation, which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment.
  • May require lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, pulling up to and over 40 pounds; partial or complete assistance with activities of daily living without assistance from another health care worker.
  • Requires exposure to blood and various body fluids which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment.


  • Reports to the Diagnostic Imaging Administrator.
  • Has no responsibility for leading or supervising the work of other colleagues. Has responsibility for training/guiding students. May have responsibility for training new colleagues when requested.
