POSITION PURPOSE

Under limited supervision, performs radiographic procedures at a level not requiring constant guidance or assistance. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment in applying prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. Assumes responsibility for particular areas of specialization as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

1.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Mercy standards.

2.

Maintains and participates in associate work and call schedules.

3.

Acts as the expert technical resource for the department regarding imaging protocols.

4.

Acts as the expert technical resource for the department regarding imaging and procedure protocols.

5.

Oversees and directs work of associates in the department to ensure proper work flow.

6.

Leads the product procurement process and works closely with Supply Chain to maintain PAR levels, and ensure adequate supplies for cases

7.

Is responsible for aligning product vendors and education to ensure staff and physician competency

8.

Maintains staff schedule, call and holiday schedule, and PTO schedule for department

9.

Assists supervisor with annual policy and procedure audits.

10.

Coordinates and ensures department communication with Physicians, Management, Associates, Patients, Families, and Visitors, and nursing staff, to facilitate department workflow.

11.

Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in services.

12.

Closely monitors and maintains patient schedules and appointments. Ensures department schedule is appropriate for patient volume and recommends adjustments as necessary.

13.

Ensures departmental equipment is maintained in safe operating condition and contacts Biomed personnel as appropriate. Reports any equipment issues to supervisor.

14.

In addition to performing all the essential job functional competencies of a staff technologists, assists and makes recommendations to the Director about duties that include but are not limited to performance evaluations, timecards, (Kronos), productivity, and quality assurance.

15.

Is responsible for maintaining department imaging records in accordance with standards and protocols. Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations as they apply to imaging services.

16.

Keeps room and department clean, neat and orderly, and maintains room supplies.

17.

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Mercy and Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be ARRT registered and licensed by the State of Iowa. Minimum of three years prior radiology experience required. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must successfully pass employment physical examination and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives. Must possess the ability to comply with Mercy and Trinity Health policies and procedures. Ability to perform patient lifting. Frequent standing, walking and bending required. Ability to function under stressful situations. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such as inclement weather, dust, noise, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, and infectious disease. Frequent exposure to radiation. The essential functions of the Lead Special Procedures/Interventional Radiology Technologist are Medium Work. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to pounds of force constantly.
