Trinity Health Psychiatric Crisis Clinician-PRN in Silver Spring, Maryland

This position pays a flat rate of $32.96

General Summary:

Responsible for providing direct clinical consultation to patients and their families, when appropriate, as part of assessment consultation team, with emphasis on completing psychosocial assessments, and recommending appropriate behavioral health treatment to patients in the Emergency Center. Initiating and completing psychiatric placement, when needed, in the EC and on the in-patient hospital units. Provides psychiatric case management (includes finding psychiatric beds and obtaining authorization from managed care companies). Works in close collaboration with the on-call psychiatrists, staff, and outside agencies and entities, as appropriate. Accepts direction from Director, Behavioral Health, Silver Spring. Supports Mission of CHE Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field. Highest Clinical License: LCSW-C, LCPC. Ability to assess, plan and implement therapeutic services effectively in multi-disciplinary setting. Particular skills in assessment, and considerable knowledge about clinical principles and practice, social health and welfare programs, and laws governing eligibility for these programs. Ability to mobilize and coordinate resources effectively. Knowledge about needs of dually diagnosed populations. Ability to interface effectively and efficiently with various health care disciplines and institutions, and with patients and their families. 1-3 years relevant experience in health care mental health setting required, preferably in a hospital. Case management experience preferred (i.e. arranging for hospital transfers, discharge planning, and getting pre-certifications). Must be able to maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations, such as when verbally or physically confronted. Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients, and maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge. Must be able to address and prioritize multiple task demands within established time frames. Previous experience with Cerner or EPIC is strongly preferred.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

Master’s Degree in social work, psychology or related field. 1 - 3 years of experience required. Licensed as an independent Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, Nurse, or Counselor. Ability to assess, plan and implement therapeutic services effectively in multi-disciplinary setting. Particular skills in assessment, and considerable knowledge about clinical principles and practice, social health and welfare programs, and laws governing eligibility for these programs. Knowledge and experience in the Maryland voluntary and involuntary process for psychiatric admissions. Knowledge and experience in obtaining pre-authorizations from managed care companies for psychiatric admissions. Ability to mobilize and coordinate resources effectively. Knowledge about needs of dually diagnosed populations. Ability to interface effectively and efficiently with various health care disciplines and institutions, and with patients and their families. Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in health care mental health setting, preferably in hospital. Must be able to maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations, such as when verbally or physically confronted. Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients, and maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge. Must be able to address and prioritize multiple task demands within established time frames. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40-dB loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Work is primarily sedentary in nature requiring occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work requires visual acuity to read, prepare, and analyze data, transcriptions, and characters on computer terminals; visual inspection of documents and similar objects or items at distances generally close to the eye. Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations such as when verbally or physically confronted. Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge. Must be able to address and prioritize multiple task demands within established time frames.

Working Conditions:

Location of work is in and around the hospital. Some hazard potential from physically acting out patients and health related communicable diseases. Travel to speaking engagements or other activities may be required.

The clinician is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; conditions are typical of hospital and office settings and administrative work.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Program Manager or designee.
