Trinity Health Clinical Nurse - PRN - 8 West Acute Care / Pediatrics in Silver Spring, Maryland

This 22-bed unit consists of two sub-specialties, pediatric and mother/baby care. The unit is staffed with nurses specially trained in both pediatrics and the mother/baby couplet. An interdisciplinary team of pediatricians, pediatric hospitalists, obstetricians, registered nurses, pharmacists, child life specialists, case managers, and dietitians collaborates to care for the uncomplicated mother/baby couplet and a variety of childhood illnesses in children from birth to 18 years of age, providing with unique opportunity to expand their reaches into the continuum of women's and children's health.

General Summary:

Using the Quality Caring Model, demonstrates acceptable performance and applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of routine patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. Effectively communicates fundamental patient/family information to health care team. Identifies and communicates variances from patient goals. Responsible for providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care utilizing the nursing process.

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

Graduation from an accredited nursing program; basic professional nursing degree (BSN or MSN) preferred.

Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse.

BLS certification; additional Life Support training as applicable to unit requirements.

Professional specialty certifications may be required in accordance with departmental standards or role requirements.

  • HRPC: Inpatient OB certification for exam-eligible RNs

*For RNs working in Labor and Delivery, High Risk Perinatal Center and Float Pool E: NCC EFM Certification. For novice RNs and experienced RNs newly hired, certification must be obtained within twelve months of hire.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds. Must be able to push, pull, and move patients and patient care equipment. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel. Must be able to utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly at distances close to the eyes.

Auditory Acuity:Must have sufficient acuity to identify auditory alarms in noisy environments.

Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards associated with a hospital environment.
