WSP, an award‑winning and innovative multi‑disciplinary engineering consulting firm, seeks a Civil/ Environmental Engineer with strong project management, analytical and design skills to join our Water and Environmental Division in Shelton, Connecticut. Typical projects involve hydrologic and hydraulic studies; water supply planning; development or upgrading of water supply sources; design of water utility infrastructure improvements including dams, treatment, storage tanks, pipelines, pumping stations, and pressure reducing facilities; floodplain management and watershed planning projects; drainage and erosion control; and stormwater BMP design.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Candidate will serve as Water Supply and Environmental Engineer on variety of projects.

  • Produce hydrologic and hydraulic studies including stormwater modeling, steady state and dynamic river modeling, conveyance system modeling, flood resilience planning and design, and sediment transport and scour analysis.

  • Perform capacity and yield analysis for water supply source development.

  • Prepare population and demand projections.

  • Assist senior dam engineers with dam inspection, repair and construction projects.

  • Develop and conduct bench and pilot testing of treatment process improvements.

  • Prepare distribution system hydraulic modeling for facility and system planning and design.

  • Design water utility infrastructure improvements including dams, treatment, storage tanks, pipelines, pumping stations, and pressure reducing facilities.

  • Assist clients with obtaining required permits and approvals for projects. Meet with public officials and deliver presentations to boards as required.

  • Communicate with clients, establish goals and objectives for project teams, and scheduling and coordinating resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client.

  • Supporting proposal development on a variety of water related as well as interdisciplinary projects and attending conferences and seminars.

  • Use the following software: ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, FLOW3D, PCSWMM, WaterGEMS, InfoWater, HydroCAD, AutoCAD and Microstation.

  • Apply regulatory knowledge with CTDPH, CTDEEP, NYDEC, FEMA, USACE, NYSDOT, USDOT and FHWA.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in water system engineering, design and modeling.

  • High competency levels in one or more of the following areas: hydrology, hydraulics, master planning, feasibility studies, stormwater design, steady state and dynamic modeling, conveyance systems design, hydraulic structures, dams, water treatment, process design, pump stations, watershed assessment, and stream restoration.

  • Have or ability to obtain within 2 years a PE License in Connecticut or New York.

  • Must function independently with minimal supervision in a multi-disciplinary team setting.

  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
