Pre Authorization Specialist

The Sequenom Division has an exciting opportunity for a Pre Authorization team. This position will be responsible for requesting initial authorization from insurance companies and all follow-up on assigned accounts. This position will assist the error processing team with updating the accounts and assigning the correct payors in the billing system.

Responsibilities:

  • Request initial authorization from insurance companies from both government and commercial payors

  • Assist error processing team in assigning correct payors on new accounts in the billing system

  • Review paperwork, research and identify billing issues and update the billing system with the correct payor information

  • Send authorization documents to scan

  • Answer questions from ordering clients, patients, insurance companies, and staff

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines / regulations

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required.

  • 2+ years' experience in a Medical Billing environment required

  • 2 years requesting authorization for services preferred

  • Previous experience working directly with health plans or medical groups for authorizations

  • Knowledge of professional medical billing and collection practices

  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD10 codes

  • Computer proficiency -- MS Windows, MS Office, and database experience

  • Previous experience with billing software, such as XiFin highly preferred

  • Experience with government billing a plus

  • Ability to review large amounts of data for accuracy

  • Must be organized and detail-oriented

Ability to work the following schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm

Requirements

High School or equivalent and with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical Billing and/or Prior Authorizations preferred
