Position Title: Foster Family Consultant

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Department: Migration and Refugee Services

Reports to: Refugee Foster Family Supervisor

Hiring Range: $18.00-$23.00/hr DOE

Primary Function of Position

In this role, you'll contribute to the Refugee Foster Care (RFC) program by training, supporting, and retaining foster families. Your insights and recommendations will aid program staff in making informed decisions regarding these families.

Major Position Responsibilities

  1. Family Support and Licensure: Guide families through the process of fulfilling procedures and requirements necessary to become licensed foster care providers and sustain licensure.
  2. Educational Outreach: Facilitate evening pre-service courses for foster family applicants, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles.
  3. Application and Orientation: Oversee the foster family application process and orientation, streamlining the journey for families joining the program.
  4. Continuing Education: Assist in developing and coordinating retention and continuing education activities for foster families, promoting their growth and ongoing learning.
  5. Ongoing Engagement: Conduct monthly home visits to assigned foster families to ensure compliance with state and agency licensing standards. Offer consistent support to families and youth, fostering a nurturing environment.
  6. Swift Integration: Within 48 hours of placement, conduct intakes with foster youth placed in assigned families, ensuring seamless integration.
  7. Parenting Skills and Support: Provide coaching to foster families, enhancing parenting skills and conflict resolution abilities.
  8. Meticulous Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring a comprehensive overview of interactions and progress.
  9. Weekend On-Call Responsibility: Participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule 3-4 times a year.
  10. Collective Engagement: Actively engage in weekly staff meetings, contributing your insights and fostering team cohesion.
  11. Additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment

  1. This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  2. Your work will also take you to youths' homes, places of employment, educational institutes, and other locations as needed.

Physical Demands

  1. The role involves extended periods of sitting and standing, walking moderate distances, driving, and occasionally assisting youth with physical activities, such as carrying groceries or household supplies.
  2. Driving is an integral part of this position.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  1. Confident Teaching: Comfortably teach both groups of potential foster parents and individuals one-on-one within their homes.
  2. Passionate Parenting: Display a deep commitment to parenting and a willingness to learn best practices.
  3. Effective Training and Coaching: Demonstrate organizational, training, and parent coaching skills, contributing to the growth of foster families.
  4. Tech Proficiency: Exhibit proficiency in computer skills, including maintaining case files, documentation, scheduling, and email using Microsoft Office 365.
  5. Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication abilities, relating effectively to diverse individuals.
  6. Aligned with Mission: Familiarity with and support for the mission of Catholic Community Services of Uta h and the vision of the Catholic Church as articulated by the diocesan bishop.

Education, Training, and Experience

  1. A bachelor's degree in social work or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Experience in working with parents and families in a supportive capacity.
  3. Experience with multi-cultural and refugee comm nities.
  4. Prior experience working with youth, ideally within a foster care setting.

Background Screening Requirement

  1. Must be able to pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses, Certifications, and Credentials

  1. SSW or CSW preferred.
  2. A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Additionally, be 21 years of age or older, maintain a clean driving record, and have the capacity to fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.

Position status and expected schedule

  1. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week.
  2. Your general schedule will occur between Monday and Friday, from 8 AM to 9:00 PM. This schedule offers flexibility to accommodate late afternoon and evening hours for home visits and training sessions.
  3. Additionally, you'll participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule to respond to emergencies.
