Research Entomologist

Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Research Entomologist, are to:

  • Develop and implement laboratory bioassays to characterize activity of insecticidal compounds on target and non-target arthropods under GLP;

  • Develop rearing methods for new arthropods brought into the lab for expanded testing;

  • Address regulator questions around activity spectrum, NTO testing and interaction studies to support product registrations;

  • Contribute to Environmental Risk Assessments of biotechnology-derived insect control products;

  • Develop peer-reviewed publications in accordance with product strategy;

  • Drive adoption of new processes and efficiency gains in arthropod receipt, handling, dosing, scoring and reporting;

  • Ensure high quality data are produced and delivered in a timely manner.

Who you are

Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Entomology, Toxicology, Ecotoxicology or related field with at least 2 years’ experience in conducting lab and greenhouse experiments evaluating effects of toxic substances on mortality, development and weight of test organisms following exposure to various doses;

  • Ability to conceptualize, design, and execute experiments that address insect specific research questions in transgenic cropping systems;

  • Agility to work on multiple projects, work in a team environment, and flexibility to meet business objectives;

  • Functional knowledge of statistics and data management;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Ecotoxicology or Environmental Risk Assessment;

  • Strong background in either insect feeding behavior, insect diet, insect physiology, plant-insect interactions.

Domestic relocation may be offered for this role.
