Appvion, Inc. Production Supervisor (Pulp Mill & Utilities) in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania
The Production Supervisor (Pulp Mill & Utilities area) is expected to provide clear direction and vision, build effective teams, focus on customer needs, and practice sound business management. The general responsibility of the Pulp Mill & Utilities Supervisor is to lead and support a work group of approximately eighteen hourly employees working a southern swing shift rotation. The individual is responsible for safety, productivity, quality, and cost.
Monitor and evaluate employee’s job performance and provide coaching and corrective action as needed in order to ensure safety, environmental, productivity, quality, cost, and lean manufacturing initiatives are achieved.
Lead safety activities, including one-on-one safety discussions, condition monitoring, housekeeping and safety inspections, safety meetings, accident investigations, near miss reporting, and development of job safety analyses.
Troubleshoot and resolve product quality and equipment problems by utilizing hourly personnel, maintenance employees, and other department/mill resources.
Maintain communications within the department, as well as, across other areas of the mill.
Develop an in-depth understanding of Plant processes and operations.

An understanding of environmental regulations as it relates to water, air, steam, and condensate, preferred.
2-5 years experience in a heavy manufacturing environment. Prefer demonstrated supervisory experience within a union manufacturing environment.
A technical background in kraft/pulping and/or utilities or a Bachelor’s degree in technical/engineering is preferred.
Leadership in continuous improvement projects.
Ability to facilitate and drive to resolution complex problems.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be results oriented and a team player.
Must have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
Knowledge of lean manufacturing a plus.
Capable of working in a flexible, often shifting/environment.
Ability to work any shift on any day (12 hour swing) with occasional coverage during shutdowns/mill events.
