VCU Health System's Blood Gas Lab is seeking a part time Med Lab Technician. The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) prepares specimens for analysis by accessioning orders via LIS (CIS), verifying specimen acceptability and performing established pre-analytical procedures in accordance with laboratory policy in an accurate, safe and timely manner. Provides support services for the clinical laboratories by resolving problem specimens/orders and responding to telephone inquiries for test results and specimen collection criteria. Duties performed in a customer focused, courteous and efficient manner. Must be available for other duties as assigned by team leaders, supervisors, and departmental Managers. Additionally, provides accurate and timely testing and reports results to requesting physicians and other health care professionals for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Should consistently utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times. Displays a positive and professional interpersonal style with a strong commitment to the team effort is mandatory.
Performance, evaluation and reporting of procedures outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
Notification of panic values to ordering physicians.
Customer service oriented communications.
May require weekend and/or holiday rotation on all shifts as patient care needs in hospital dictate.
Incumbents in position are considered "essential" employees
Associates Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Sciences or related science from an accredited program*
Certified as Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within 18 months from the date hired into position
Bachelors Degree in Biological Science from an accredited school
